As a user I want to be able to sort photo’s within an album (equals folder) in “date taken” sort order, so I can watch the holiday pictures in chronological order.
I use to store all photo’s of an event (holiday) in a separate folder. In plex (web and apps) I can see these folders as a “album” with a poster and background image. We have multiple devices to take those photo’s. Those devices use their own filenames and numbering. After putting them together in an album, the ordering is not correct because it will be sorted on name.
Feature request for both web app as other mobile apps.
This is crazy. I’ve never seen any photo app without sort capabilities on the embedded metadata. I love so much about Plex, but the lack of picture sorting screams bush league.
Same with not being able to set the album cover photo by just choosing on the specific photo in the album. I have to choose from a file on my file system? Then why have a photo library?
Even outside individual folders view, I would like a Google Photos like timeline view. As all photos are unorganised, the Photos Utility in Plex is useless to me.
Hey, we have exactly the same problem as the OP: Different cameras for the same holiday and therefore picture folder.
But I don’t understand the root of the problem. Plexweb and PHT (OpenPHT) have the option to sort the pictures by “Date Taken”. So this feature seems to be implemented already.
Yet for some reason it doesn’t seem to work. Is the server not supporting this or where exactly lies the probem?
Details:
2 cameras with different picture/video naming schemes
pictures and videos of one holiday stored in the same holiday folder
all dates are correct according to the “originallyAvailableAt” tag in the XML files
PMS 1.3.3.3148, OpenPHT 1.7.1 for QNAP, Plex Media Player (which doesn’t have any sort option at all as far as I could find out)
This feature seams long overdue. I have multiple albums being used to sync mobile devices via the camera upload feature. Its really irritating that I can’t sort the albums photos based on date taken.
Renaming the files isn’t an option as this screws up my offsite backups and generally isn’t a reasonable practice for this purpose as all the information is available in the images metadata.
This indeed is a very basic feature that is missing or actually not working which makes Plex not useable for photos to me since I have folders/albums with pics of my camera and my phone together, using the date taken option is key to sort these correctly and view them chronological.
I’m actually pretty sure this option has been working for a short time in the beginning of this year but got broken again with a new release of PMS. Please fix this (gain) Plex.
I must admit that this is actually making me not buy the plex pass…
I just tried it for a month and was surprised with this feature missing. Not in my wildest dreams would i have thought that a basic feature like this was missing:)
But crossing my fingers they will fix it.
Oh yeah and a truly working background camera uploader on IOS would also be a factor. for my wife. I know it’s an IOS thing, but if onedrive can do it, so can plex…
It is quite surprising that Plex has failed to implement this very basic functionality. Does someone need to define a Use Case for this to get done?
How about this:
A user creates an album with the intent of it being a Retrospective of a family member for a surprise birthday/graduation/anniversary slideshow display. The process of picking and choosing photos from the database of 10’s of thousands of photos is ad hoc; consisting of several other family members searching through various known folders, existing albums, and the timeline in both forward and reverse order. Once all of the desired photos are collected into the new Retrospective album, the last step is to sort the images in chronological order based on the Date Taken.
