So I have been playing around with the photo’s library and for the most part I quite like it. There was one thing however that I didn’t like and that was that I can’t sort my photo’s when viewing from within an album.
I like to organise my photo’s into folders to be represented as an album in plex. I was confused when I noticed that the order of the photo’s within the albums was not as I was expecting. I was expecting the order of the photo’s within the album to be in the order they were taken. It was close, but not quite. Even after sorting the photo’s at the library level to be sorted by date taken the order did not change.
After looking at the docs I realised that the files are displayed as they are on the disk and this cannot be changed from within plex.
Typically Cameras will use an incrementing naming convention that would ensure such ordering. In my case I am using photo’s from multiple sources (gopro, IPhones, digital camera, etc) which each use a different convention so the order on disk does not match the order they were taken.
This seems to me like expected behaviour. If you think back to actual physical photo albums, the whole point is to look through photo’s from that album from start to finish. Whether the album is from a period of time, from a trip or whatever. I’d like to be able to do this within an album rather than from the timeline because I believe it’s a different use case.
Its a long explanation, hopefully it makes sense.
