OMG, i was going mad when adding 15.000 photos to my plex photo library (in different albums) and noticed that some of my albums had winter photos mixed together with summer photos.
WTF havent this BASIC low hanging feature been added to plex photos yet? Make me regretting buying plex pass !
Is there a way to sort photos within albums by date or date taken?
I had to rename all my photos to have the date and time IMG_yyyymmdd_hhmmss.jpg
e.g. IMG_20140505_135302.jpg
This was not just for Plex (Kodi screensaver as well). Weird that such a basic function has been overlooked.
oh that sucks and seems to be to much time if you have over 50k photos. Must be a pain in the ass to rename every new images uploading from the phone also
I have all my photos imported into jAlbum (http://jalbum.net) and there is a script you can use that automates the rename - reading the EXIF data and naming the photo accordingly. I have about 10,000 files. It was still a pain but not too bad.
This exact naming format is also used by my Android phone (not a coincidence) so I don’t have to do it on any photos that come from that.
Just downloaded all my 8K photos from Google Photos to Plex. I’m baffled that such a basic feature as ordering photos by EXIF date taken is missing. Plex needs better focus.

This is insanity - can’t believe there has been no response to this in over 5 years. I am just discovering this myself (I have a folder with 5000 pictures in it and no way to sort them on Plex…) How is this a thing?
Where is the @Plex support when its needed?

5 years later. Paying subscriber that “accidently” purchased the monthly pass for the photos and can’t use this. Do something Plex Support.
Looks to me like Plex is distancing from all these marginal features to focus on video streaming. If so, the better. The more you bloat software, the more bugs and less you can keep up fixing them. I’m looking for a self-hosted photo cloud with client-side image editing support and will migrate my photos from Plex as soon as I find one.
Anyone can advice some self-hosted alternatives for photo library? With mobile app upload/sync?

LOL you guys still using plex photos? dont even bother, the devs wont do anything for photos. Its been like 8 years and they havent even added a simple fix to this…
I’ve given up on Plex adding the ability to use IPTC and EXIF tags. I still use Plex for many things but for serving up photos I use JRiver Media Center. In an instant I can create a playlist or use a Smart playlist to serve up photos to all my devices. It sparks so many conversations with friends and family!
