Photos from iPhone upload

I have been trying to figure out how to dump the 7000 photos on my wife’s phone  Without causing me to much of a headache. I saw that we can upload them to plex with lifetime membership but my question is once I upload them to my Plex server can I then delete them on my wifes phone without it deleting in my plex server that way I can free up all the space on her phone which is completely full.

I know you can do this on other media platforms but I like to have and store my own stuff

thanks

Uploaded photos are stored in Plex’s metadata tree.
Should you ever lose the metadata (the installation itself) you’ll lose the photos.

Better approach here is to upload the photos independently to your storage then create a photo library which points to that storage.

How do I upload them independently? The reason I was looking at this solution is that once I pointed the iPhone at the Plex server it would upload them and get them off my phone. Is this correct? When u talk about the metadata (Is this like a copy of the photos?) do u mean the upload meaning the data is still stored on the phone?

Where do you normally keep your media which the Plex server uses? A NAS? A Hard Drive attached to the computer?

There are apps which will upload from the iPhone to a NAS (I have both the Synology and QNAP apps and there is a 3rd party app as well)

I can actually upload my iPhone to my Synology much faster than the Plex app.
Now, with the media on the Syno, I create a “Photo” library section (just like the app does). The difference here is I know where my media is and I’m in control of it.

I keep it on my Synology. I have Synology version NVR216 with 4 terabytes and 4 back up. I bought it initially for my cameras but then turned it into my storage also. I thought I could hook the app to it but when I called Synology support they said the software didn’t work with it because it was the NVR version…frustrating, I might call them again and see if that has changed.

Maybe the QNAP app would work any other suggestions on another app would be great. I have been just hooking my wife’s phone up to the server computer via cord and going in and copy and pasting the photos and videos…very frustrating and slow as it always stops and I have to start it again. Will one of the apps just point to the photo library I already have on the synology and start to move them? At that point I am assuming I can delete photos and videos on her phone but see them in her Plex app?

If you have photos on the Synology, the QNAP (where the server is) mount the share from the Synology.

The reverse is also possible.

Apps exist for both and I’ve tested both. They work well.
