Hi,
I’ve notices people having problems with the photo sync feature and a ran into it after building a new server. I’ve got it working again, but wanted to share as there are a lot of people seeming to have some problems.
So I built a new FreeNas server as we had out grown the windows server I built a few years ago and swaps over to the new server in the app settings on our phones - thought nothing of it as I have never had a problem with this feature. After a few days I notices that our photos where not uploading. So googled it did come across anything that was solving the problem.
So had a poke around. I reinstalled the app on the phone and notices that when I pressed upload on it that it would just flash “uploading” but nothing would upload, It would do this for about 5min and then stop and the “Start” button would show.
So the only thing I change was the server - Which includes new file permissions
I had created a single user to be able to access my Plex media dataset on FreeNas, which is share to a PC with SMB.
Looking at the permissions of the share on the PC my plex user is there will full access, But the app doesn’t allow you to pass through a username or password, BUT the “Everyone” user is there but with only read access. So I when into my photo file on the share and changed the permission for the “Everyone” user on the album file I was using - I just added write permissions and It started uploading straight away. Problem solved.
From the permission side of things, the library folder shouldn’t be exposed because you would need to have the plex user username and password to connect to the share.
If plex could add to the “Manual connections” and username and password that you could pass though, I think it could make it a bit easier when running into permission errors.
Hope this helps
