Hi,

I’m constantly running out of hard disk space on my main Windows drive (C:). All my media is stored on a different drive (F:), but my PhotoTranscode folder is enormous, even though I am deleting it every week or so. It’s now 30GB and continuing to grow.

For reference, I’m referring to the PhotoTranscode folder in “C:\Users(MyUsername)\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache”.

  1. How can I make Plex stop creating so many thumbnails? I found a registry hack but that hasn’t had much effect (if any). Seems like these thumbnails are duplicates, as well.
  2. How do I put a maximum size on this folder? I would be fine with a 10GB max, even though that still seems way too big.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

Unfortunately, its always been a mess. Have a look at Cache/PhotoTranscoder Folder Size Sanity Check for additional details.

I personally nuke this cache weekly (been doing it for years) but can also use the prune option from the PlexDBRepair tool → GitHub - ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases. However I cannot speak for how well this works on windows (I’m purely a linux person myself).

Thanks for the reply. I had seen both of those links before, but I missed that the database repair tool had a Windows version.

My question is - what is the Plex team doing to resolve this? I have paid for Plex Pass so I would like to see this issue addressed.

Hi, Plex Pass is not an entitlement to more as such. Plex Pass is a subscription to a few extra features.

As for the Cache collection, just nuke it every couple weeks with PMS not running should keep it at bay.

cheers
