Same exact problem - all updated iOS apps and updated server (current beta release even)
Meant to add - is there a fix for this? or is there a bug request to put in somewhere?
Still trying to reproduce the issue to see what might be causing it. Just have not been able to yet.
I can’t even get slideshow to work.
I try play or shuffle a folder of images, it just just stays on the first image.
yeah you have to swipe. always been that way I’ve been told. I was assuming these folks meant swipe
Yes you have to manually swipe through them.
ugh, thats not a slideshow lol, but ok!
edit, oh wow yeah I just swiped a dozen or so images and it goes blurred
once it starts blurring, it stays blurred even if you swipe back to previous images

Not always, just the past four years
It used to actually work!
It depends on device Android TV it works for me. For apple devices it doesn’t. Im not an apple device guy do didn’t know that.
I did some more testing. All of the iOS devices (Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone) exhibit this behavior. I think it could have to do with the way the background blurs the edges of the picture - is there a way to disable that function and just do a black background for the image? It seems that as you swipe something happens and the background blurring becomes the foreground image if that makes sense. I also tested various images sizes and conversion sizes in Plex (doesn’t impact). Viewing on a computer via Plex app works fine. Happy to explain more if needed. Also doesn’t matter if the images are synced to the device or not.
Just to clarify the synced image comment - I synced a set of images (about 275 in one folder and 131 in another) then took my iOS device offline / airplane mode with no WiFi connection and reproduced the same image blur result. So maybe it is in the app rendering and not on the server?
So there have been dozens of comments from other Plex users saying they are experiencing the exact same problem—all slide show photos go all blurry after 20 to 30 images and the slide show becomes unusable. Yet no solution has been offered by Plex support. This inability to resolve a common problem that seriously limits the usefulness of Plex for so many users months after the issue was reported is extremely disappointing. If Plex support can’t solve such a basic problem after such a long time, it’s clear to me the problem hasn’t really taken seriously nor given the necessary resources to resolve the issue in a reasonable time.
Please escalate this issue to a higher level Of support so that the problem will be addressed properly and given the necessary resources to finally find a solution.
Dominique,
An increasingly frustrated PlexPass holder.
It is being investigated by the devs.
FYI - iOS 13.4 does NOT fix this issue. Any ideas on the solution and when it will be fixed by Plex (meaning have the devs started the investigation)? Thanks!
From the post above yours:
I think we’ve gone past the stock “being investigated” answer. This answer was reasonable on Jan 10, when I first reported the problem. But it frankly seems dismissive and glib after such a long time period for your devs to investigate and fix.
Several Plex users have reported the same problem since the original post. This is clearly a problem with the iOS player apps—as everyone has reported. I find it really hard to believe this matter is being taken seriously, given that there appears to have been zero progress.
I love Plex. That’s why I express my support with a voluntary PlexPass subscription. But Plex Support has fallen well short of expectations and software development company standards.
Please don’t drive me away from what is my favourite app. Show us some progress—any progress.
Still hopeful but disillusioned,
Dominique LaCasse.
Same issue here with the latest Plex server, iPad Air 3 with iOS 13.3.1 when scrolling through photos. The Plex server is on our local network and this is on the same room as the WiFi router.
We can scroll through 15-25 photos before it goes blurry and you have to exit the enlarged photo, return to the grid view and then reselect the photo again where it loads as it should for another 15-25 photos.
It’s quite frustrating, but reassuring to see others have the same issue.
Thanks for adding your voice to those of us reporting this issue. Given the chaos and challenges of the the Covid-19 pandemic, it may be difficult for Plex employees to give this problem the attention it deserves right now. Let’s hope the issue is finally addressed and resolved once things are back to “normal.”
keeping this thread alive (thanks oscarvanl and old-dog!) - did another test after updating server to Version 1.18.9.2578 tonight just to see - same blurry result as reported earlier - iOS version 13.4 on a new iPad Mini. Here’s hoping that the developers get to this issue soon - it would be really nice to share photos this way during this virus mess! Stay safe everyone!
Yeah, I just did a bunch of testing again. Not only is thee freeze on blurry image still there, but the load time for images has gotten worse. On my AppleTV 4K, I can view about half a dozen pictures smoothly and quickly, but the next image can take up to 10 seconds to load. Then, it’s good for 4 or 5 images, the next slide takes forever to load.
And of course, the initial issue I started this thread with of a total Plex freeze on a completely blurry image remains.
Fingers crossed
