Same issue - running server on a Dell laptop, all iOS devices all turn blurry after viewing 10 to 20 photos.
Just updated the iOS apps on both iPhone X and iPadMini (most recent model) - still have same issue.
PLEX - PLEASE give us an update on getting this fixed! I’m not seeing the value in the PlexPASS at this point. Nothing seems to get fixed. Frustrated.
I agree 100%, as the user to first raise this issue, I’m extremely disappointed that as a PlexPass member, I have had virtually no meaningful updates on the fix to such an obvious problem. Plex seems more interested in adding an endless stream of useless features than in fixing Plex basic function. Please do not drive me to cancel my Plex Pass membership and seek a better solution from a more responsive provider.
Yours truly,
Dominique LaCasse.
I can confirm this problem. An all iOS (Apple TV, iPad, iPhone) devices the pictures get blur and hang after scrolling for a few pictures. The issue seems to affect very large photo library.
Hope there will be a fix soon.
Just replying to say that the issue has not been forgotten. Still trying to find the root cause of it.
That is good news. If you need some log data to analyze let me know.
Same problem here. Wanted to show off family photos to guests during the quarantine and the photos become blurry after awhile, rendering the feature useless.
Just to add, the photo folder I’m using to shuffle slideshow has over 1000 files. Maybe Plex cannot process that many items.
Update: installed new server version 1.19.1.2701 and new Apple TV app version 2.17 as announced. Issue remains on Apple TV, iOS iPhone & iPad (issue is now worse on these devices as some albums won’t load even one picture (even one with only 139 low resolution images in it).
I’m done waiting. I’ve cancelled my Plex Pass subscription. Sorry Plex, but 4 months is long enough for something that should be basic bug fix (not to mention it seems only to get worse with each release). Even a temporary fix (like a basic black background) would have been nice to put in the multiple releases you’ve issued since the issue was originally reported.
Thank you.
Same issue remains here, after nearly weekly updates to servers and players. It’s quite remarkable that Plex still can’t show a sequence of photos without screwing up on iOS devices after such a long time and for such a simple problem.
If this issue isn’t resolved in next update, I too will cancel my PlexPass subscription. It is becoming increasingly clear that PlexPass membership is virtually worthless.
Dear developer, is there an update on the progress of this issue? It would help to know if this issues is fixable or not?
Does this problem only occur on Apple devices or on other platforms too?
In my case it happens on a Synology NAS with Apple TV.
Same problem here on iPad Pro and Apple TV 4K.
Same here. On apple tv 4k, after some pictures, all blurry. It seems that the player only shows the blurried background and that the main frame where the real photo has to be displayed, either appears behind the background or didn’t ever show.
Same problems on iPhone x no problems on the local page on the server feels bad to pay the app and it doesn’t work well
Keeping the thread alive. I just saw this on my IPad Pro latest Plex app. Have to close the picture and reopen. On the the 2nd or 3rd swipe the picture is blurred. You have to close the picture and repeat.
Same issue here. Last week I promised my parents a perfect solution to watch their old photos from the local PC on their iPad. Bought the subscription for them. But then this issue came up. Please make this issue an high priority!
Same here. Same problem
I have the same problem. Lockups occur randomly during photo viewing on iPad, iPhone and AppleTV. OK on iMac. It does not appear to be related to the resolution or format of the photo. It also happens regardless of whether photos are being streamed from an iMac or from a NAS drive. Not sure if this is related, but the ‘decode’ time for photos is very variable. Some update instantly, other take a few seconds. Again, this seems unrelated to photo resolution.
This is all very frustrating as my main motivation for subscribing to Plex was to have a single player to consolidate all my media, of which photos are an important part. I would have expected the technical challenge to create a photo slideshow to be much simpler than that for movie streaming, so I’m surprised this is taking many months to fix.
Same here - iOS device. hasn’t worked for literally years. A few images are fine and then it is just a blurred out version of the image. Go back to main screen then back into images - all good for a few and then blurry.
Same issue here on iPad
It is scandalous that this still has not been resolved. Shame on Plex.
