I would like to have this feature too.
Same here, you can't always just remux it into the container either, for "reasons"...
If you can't see why, don't worry about it, just realize this would be beneficial for users. I would suggests integrating it into the "local media assets" - "Local Extras" features. Could just add another "-extratype" of "-soundtrack" so that people tag the external soundtrack with it and it get integrated into the movie's page.
This feature would save me gobs of space...Â
+1
I would like .mka, .dtshd or any other HD audio format to be playable with the original video.
Would be great if plex could mux it on the fly, direct stream.
It seems really strange for me that plex doesnât have such a simple feature. If I start remuxing in all audio tracks in my library I wouldnât be able to continue to seed those video files in torrent client.

This is the exact same reason for me.
With the new Atmos tracks I really want to be able to have the Atmos track and select that when in my home theatre room but just play the normal file that was originally muxed in all other times.

I have couple of .ac3/dts files, but I canât play them with video

Please, add this feature
Iâll join in as well, this would be great functionality to have!
Still not added? How sad.
+1!!
please
I too desire this.
Need it too
I donât necessarily need the âsyncâ feature, but itâd be nice to have audio files be detected as subtitle files are.
My use case: Avoiding a transcode when streaming lossless Bluray rips to plex in the browser. BD video can usually be direct streamed, but the very common 5.1/7.1 AC3 audio canât. To solve this, I downmix to stereo AAC. It would be nice to have this external audio track be recognized as an âOptimized Versionâ of the audio- Iâd save a lot of space by not having another copy of the same video sitting around.
I feel this feature request is within the spirit of plex; between âoptimized versionsâ and the real time transcoder, it seems to me that plex is intended as a system which interprets your media as is. An archive of lossless media should remain untouched, and all alterations should be made externally, either on demand or in an optimized version. Plexâs on demand transcoder takes care of this; what we want is the ability to have âoptimized versionsâ to be as flexible as the transcoder. Remuxing the original file is working in reverse, and I do not believe it is in the spirit of this system to require that.
In my use case, the stereo AAC track is explicitly a âplex versionâ of the audio track- it was made for use with the contemporary limitations of plex clients and browsers. As browsers and plex clients evolve, these limitations are subject to change, and as such anything built with these limitations in mind do not belong in a media archive.
In short, what I am asking for is a more modular approach to plexâs âoptimized versionsâ, where alternate audio tracks are presented as a âversionâ of the movie/show. As I understand it, plex clients will prioritize versions which they can direct stream; the âversionâ approach will âjust workâ whereas selectable audio streams would not.
It just occured to me; my proposition is basically to make plexâs optimization operate in a similar manner to youtubeâs DASH.
Yes, i would really appreciate this feature as well
I also need this feature to be able to watch my downloaded movies( only english audio) with the german audio that I own. of course i can remux the german audio using (mkvtoolnix or tsmuxergui) but this would be a hard work to enable it to hundreds of movies. I just need to put the .ac3 or .dts or .mka audio track into the movie folder and voila it should be detected by plex as external audio track!!!
8 years later⊠and the thread continues to be resurrected. In fact - I just created an account here after ages of lurking, solely to say âyes - THIS!â pleaseâŠ
need this feature!
How is this still not a thing??? It would be so useful to be able to add additional audio tracks. Plex needs to come to the party here and make a plan.
It is must have feature for those who watch foreign language films.
PLEASE MAKE THIS A THING
