With Mike Nelson's [Rifftrax](http://www.rifftrax.com/) becoming more popular, and the lack of commentaries on most rips of movies, the ability to sync with an external mp3 would be really useful, I think.
essentially you could have a format such as:
VideoName.avi
VideoName.StreamName.mp3
similar to the subtitle setup, as per [http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Videos#Using_M...guage_Subtitles](http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Videos#Using_Multi_Language_Subtitles)
The stream name would then show up in the audio stream list, following whichever embedded streams may already exist.
So for instance:
Solaris (2002).mkv [Russian Audio, English Audio]
Solaris (2002).Spanish.srt [German Subs]
Solaris (2002).Commentary.mp3 [Director's Commentary]
Would yield 3 audio tracks (Russian, English, Commentary), and one subtitle track. With director's commentaries the exact sync is probably not nearly as important, but if this were extended to be used for alternate dubs, etc, it may require additional effort for audio frame syncing. For director's commentaries, a second-level sync would most likely suffice.
Yes, I know I can probably virtualdubmod new tracks into mkvs, but that's not the feature I'm requesting! :)
Something along the lines of the subtitle system, where you can just have a folder and place in the audio tracks - especially when adding director’s commentaries and the like to films. Just place the flick and the audio file in the same folder and choose which track to play. Can’t tell you how amazing this would be, I have HUNDREDS of commentaries I’d love to sync up!
While that technically works, the same argument could be made for subtitles, as well. There is now a community of people putting together external audio designed to be synced, and a remix any time one comes out seems like a bad user experience, if an alternative is possible.

No actually, as subtitles when added to the AV mix are more of an after thought of design while Auido and Video tracks are the main point of the file.
I'll be honest, I see no value in this idea what so ever. If you have an external audio track, remux the file. It takes like 10s to do this and then plex will easily pick it up, no problems.
I found myself in a situation where I wanted to do this;Â play an existing video using another audio track than the one that was muxed into the file.
Unless I'm mistaken, remuxing additional audio into the file breaks the match with the metadata, so in effect it becomes a new, "custom" file. That strikes me as a bad way of solving the issue. A far superior solution, to my mind, would be to simply make it possible to use an external audio track such as can be done with an external subtitle. I cannot see how this idea would appear to some to be without value, unless you find the media matching that Plex does to be equally useless.
It'd be great if it could work like subtitles files. (Placing subtitle file in the same folder as video file).
Just found that VLC allows multiple files to be played (by selecting two files and playing them). I'm citing VLC more as to point out that something like this seems pretty straightforward.
Also, just to be clear... I love Plex and would never be able to use anything else for my day-to-day media consumption :)

Remuxing wouldn't work. The file has to be synced to the video playback. This is usually done manually to the pre-recorded directions on the riff, but Rifftrax has a player that will automate the delay when fed with a .sync file (plain text)

This would be a great selling point for PlexPlus, but it would really help to have some manual control over the syncing as well.
"Just re-mux"? Really, that's meant to be a serious response? Please, please, please, implement this. Renaming files to fit a standard format takes seconds. Re-muxing means learning a whole new toolset.
