Play Queue disappears when ending Google Cast

  1. Build up a queue of songs within Plexamp
  2. Start playing it and connect / cast it to a Google Cast device
  3. Disconnect from casting
    OR
Walk away out of range (so casting device connectivity terminates abnormally)

Play queue completely disappears and you need to start over.

I like to add songs / albums to a queue (I search for them and use “Add to Queue” or “Play Next”). I listen via three main ways - phone to earbuds, phone to car via Android Auto, phone to older Google Chromecast puck (audio only version).

Only when I cast to that puck, then disconnect, I lose the play queue. Known bug?

Disconnecting leaves the play queue remote and clears it locally.

Why are you disconnecting?

If you walk out of range, the Chromecast will still “own” the play queue at that point.

If you want to take the play queue locally with you, tap on This Device to move it there before you walk away.

Thank you for the reply. I was not aware at all that it functioned that way. I wasn’t aware playback devices “owed” queues. I guess I never noticed.

I will test your suggestion. My typical MO would be to:

  1. while sitting around with free time, add a bunch of tracks to the play queue
  2. start playing that back in the car, my 2020 Accord still requires corded Android Auto, so I will ususally just use the Bluetooth connection for playback, unless I need Google Maps.
  3. Get to work, do nothing to stop playback (stops automatically when the car is turned off)
  4. Eventually pop my ear buds in and continue same play queue (no problems).
  5. Get home, crack a refreshment in my garage, and get that bad boy playing via chromecast to my speaker/sub combo, and if I don’t finish the play queue, and I click “disconnect” or pause playback and walk away, that is when I lose the Next Up tracks in the queue.

I will see if your workaround helps me.

Thank you, I do appreciate the reply.

Works, chauk this up to end user cluelessness.

A “Do you want to keep this play queue” prompt after hitting Disconnect for those of us getting old enough where these things are not as easily perceived by our brains  ?

Thanks again for the quick help.
