My son showed me how to download TV shows he had on his server. I just found out they will not play. I get this: Playback Error Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error. What does this mean? What do I do to make them play? I am not sure what TAG this was supposed to be on. Does anyone have a suggestion?
As a starting point check your client and PMS logs.

Yes you could have a look at those and see if any errors show up with the same timestamp you see your problem occur
I have no idea what I would even look for. I thought you wanted to at them.

What client are you trying to playback the content on and what exact time does the fault occur?
I sent the Zip file before. Is this what you really wanted? We downloaded them from my Son’s server on 2/19 and tried to play them later on the same day. I also tried to play them this morning, probably between 10 am and 11 am Central time. I do not see anything that says ERROR. I have no idea what any of this means.

What do you mean by this, “downloaded” ?
Can you explain exactly what you are doing step by step?
Normally, you just use a client, for example a Fire TV stick or a Smart TV and run the app on there which connects to your server.
I use the Plex app on my computer, not the Plex Server. I never see an option to download on my Firestick or Roku. Matter of fact neither Firestick nor Roku will show anything about downloading. They do not show what I have been able to download either. Is there something on those devices I am supposed to enable to do that?
I go to my Son’s Plex server and on each Movie or TV show, there are 3 dots on the lower left side. I click on it and down at the bottom it says download. Then on my Plex app, it has a circle with an arrow pointing down (for downloads). That is the only place I can see them or play them from. I would like to do it on my other devices but neither will show what I have downloaded.
Ah OK, sorry I don’t download anything and don’t really know anything about it.
On my FireTV plex, Xbox or Android mobile phone app, I just select content to play and away it goes.
