Playback Error - streaming this media is unsupported

I found that I am able to resolve my issue by using Google Chrome instead of iE11 for my Plex Web Browser (iE11 continues to have the playback error of not being able to support the media when using even with v1.11.3.4803). Somehow I missed trouble shooting this when wap120 commented on the same back in Dec 2017.

I’ve just encountered this problem 2 days ago. Everything working fine, did a scan Library files for the TV Shows library only and…
Now won’t play any MKV files
I have read all the posts and it seems that as of today, 20 april 2018, nothing has been resolved for this.
I have been resisting using Chrome as I just don’t like it. however, it seems there is no other choice left to me now.
Come on Plex, sort this out please

Nothing to add but I wanted to update that this still appears unfixed. I had been avoiding updating Plex for months but updated last night and have found my way to this forum following errors and missing images.

I would note that I can play all the media on local network but no luck accessing media remotely (images that had previously shown are now missing locally and remotely).

How do i fix guys running windows 10 pro. Plex server version 1.13.9.54 56

Having problems media unsupported

While this seems to talk mostly about IE and Windows, the thread is in plex-web so I thought I would post here…

I’m helping someone and they have recently started seeing this error message in Safari on a Mac. It worked until about a month or so ago and then stopped.

They are using macOS 10.9 and Safari 9.x on a mid-2009 MacBook Pro (yes, I know, old and they should upgrade…). They use this only for Plex Web and nothing changed on their MBP. I’ve tried unchecking Direct Play and Direct Stream as well as other things mentioned in this thread and others. Where does this stand?

I have tried it in Chrome and it works so that is likely the way I will have him go but it is interesting that is just stopped working for no apparent reason and it would be great to know why.

I have read else where in the forums that Windows Ten with Edge does not display this issue. So I would gather that it is a IE issue.

As for the Mac user, I agree an update is going to be necessary very soon. A 9 Year old laptop is destined to retire anytime.

Chrome seems to resolve the issue on old operating systems
