Playback hang on 0.4.0 RC1

Hi

I bought my first raspberry pi (model B) last week and installed rasplex 0.4.0 RC1 on it with an old MCE remote/receiver attached.. Tonight was my first major playback test (Normally watch plex via chromecast) and twice the video has frozen during remote playback. The audio fades first then the video freezes, nothing works on the remote

At first I thought the pi itself had hung (It's not overclocked and doesn't have heatsinks) but I could ping & ssh to it. I logged on and restarted the plex process and it came back fine. I don't have a crash log in /storage which matches the time of the problem

When I logged on I ran `top` to see what CPU consumption was like and that hung too - That's the only indication of a problem at the shell.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this further ?

Thanks

You seem to have problems that most others don't have, and of a fairly basic nature (since the 'top' hung), so my first suspicion is that the SDcard may be corrupt.

Flashing errors do happen sometimes (happened to me too once), and the quality of the SDcard can also matter.

I wouldn't recommend anything less than a class10 card for the RPi.

In your place I'd try reflashing that SDcard or another one and start over from scratch.

Thanks dlanor

I'd not mentioned the SD card buts it's a PNY class 10, however when I first started getting the grips with the pi I had to resort to power cycling a few times. I'll re-flash it and if problem continue I'll try another card. Is there a brand you've had most success with ?

To me it actually feels like your power adapter is not great. How much amperage does it output?

It's the PSU that came with the pi (bought a kit on Amazon) it says it outputs 1amp

I recommend trying a 2 amp one, it fits the issue imo

I agree. Insufficient power could very well cause these symptoms.

I'm pleased to report that after hunting through chargers around the house, I found a HTC one which outputs 1A. I let the rasplex stream video all afternoon without any problems and had no problems viewing tonight either

Thanks for your help guys
