Films/TV Shows Freezing on Rasplex

I have films and tv shows of all sizes (3gb to 20gb) and some of the files play perfectly and others freeze every 10 -15 seconds on Rasplex. If i play these files to my iPhone through the Plex app they all play perfectly, so there must be an issue streaming to Rasplex.

Maybe its just a setting that needs changing in the preferences or something else, any help would be appreciated as this issue is stopping me watching half my library.

If any logs or file info is needed just ask and i will post.

Thanks

I'm new to Plex and RasPlex but have the same issue. My first exposure to RasPlex was with the new 0.6.0 and some videos played fine where others would hang briefly every so often, always at the same spots. Checked codecs, bitrates, cpu usage, network usage, everything I could think to try and finally tried running 0.5.1. That seems to have fixed it as now all my files are playing just fine. Not sure what else to check but for now 0.5.1 is working at least so I can continue exploring the hardware and system.

Edit: Just fyi, using a Raspberry Pi 2.

Please see the post before yours and file a bug report so the developers can fix the issue in a future version.

Will do so, just trying to see if I can figure out anything else other than just saying, "Some videos hang and stutter and some don't" in the report. As a programmer, I always liked as much info as I could get about a bug.

I messed around with Rasplex last night changing every setting that may effect this issue and got the same results with some films/tv freeze and others work perfectly. I even tried reverting back to 0.5.1 but was still getting the same issues which is strange because i didn't have these issue before i updated to 0.6.0

So i tested this was just a Rasplex issue by watching two episodes of GOT, one on my Iphone and the other through Chromecast both via the Plex app. These both played without issue on these devices, whereas i couldn't even watch the first couple of minutes on Rasplex without it freezing every 15 - 20 seconds.

I will gather all the logs/info and report the bug as soon as i get some free time.

This is not really a bug (as thousands of Rasplex users would have the same issue) but something that is incorrect with your preferences. Have you tried re-flashing the card, leaving all preferences as default and try playing the same media. Details of the problem media file would also assist.

Hi Ned,

I have tried re-frashing the card and leaving the preferences, still get the same issue with freezing every couple of seconds with some video files. I have attached the plexhometheater.log and media files info for the two files i played while debugging.

Could you please have a look and see if you can see what the problem is i am having.

If you require any further info i will provide.

Thanks

Sean

After some more testing it looks like it is my wireless adapter for the RPI2 that is the issue, as i tested with a wired connection and had no freezing issues during playback.

As i am unable to use a wired connection as my router is downstairs and I'm up, could any please suggest a better wireless adapter to use please. I believe that 300Mbps is the highest data rate for a wireless adapter for the RPI, but if theres higher that would be great, if not could you please suggest good 300Mbps adapters.

Im currently using;

Edimax EW-7811UN 150Mbps Wireless Nano USB Adapter

Decent powerline adapters may work, WiFi isn't really good enough for anything but low bitrate SD media.

Went ahead with your advise Ned and bought the following power-line adapters:

TP-LINK TL-PA8030P KIT AV1200 3-Port Gigabit

So far my testing with these has been unbelievable, i'm getting speeds that i have never got close to before. I played multiple films/tv shows with absolutely no issues of lag/freezing and everything runs smoother and quicker as well; including menus, fw/rw and loading.

Haven't had loads of time to test but this looks to of resolved my problems and made my Plex experience even better.

Thanks Ned :)
