Got the same combo, so applies to me as well.
If you tell me, what exactly you mean by “Transcoding enabled”…
@Sinned See the image I posted above. It’s a setting or your Plex server. Is that box checked or not? Having it checked mean you DO NOT want Plex to transcode videos. The video you are playing needs a transcode so having that box checked means the video will not work.
It’s checked. But why should it transcode video, 1 switch away in the local network. Especially, when I’ve NEVER changed that option.
P.S.
I’ve disabled it, still same message. Do I need to restart Plex server?
P.P.S.
Restarted the server. “The server is not powerful enough to convert video”.
There are many reasons a video will transcode. For this specific video, it’s reported that it was burning in subtitles.
That’s an interesting new error. That shouldn’t happen on a Windows PMS. Please reproduce and get me a new log. Also get me the log from the client.
Here are the logs. I’ll just say, that this error is on the Android TV STB only, it played on mobile, but when transcoding is disabled, it doesn’t play on both TV and mobile (and it was, in the past, that option have never been turned off, since I use Plex, more than 10 years).

Hello again!
So i need to bring this topic back up again, because its just annoying.
It’s definitely a Shield Problem.
My Plex Server (on my windows machine) is running fine. Streaming works flawlessly on every other Client Device (Desktop, Smart TV, aso…)
If i restart my Shield completly Plex is working perfectly. So after im done watching, i set my Shield to sleep mode. If i want to watch again the next day → playback not starting and hello spinnner. just closing the plex app and start it again doesn’t work - it had to be a complete restart of the shield. after that - everything works fine again.
before the update to the new version this has never been a problem.
anything i can do about it?
tia
@Sinned Your logs show that you’ve selected a subtitle to play, but that the subtitle couldn’t be rendered as-is so it needs to be transcoded. did you possible switch from using srt to ass subtitles? If ass subtitles have formatting in them and you have the subtitle setting set to automatic, this will trigger a transcode to burn in the subtitles. Change the setting to “image only” and it should play.
The subtitles are in the .MKV file, so I haven’t switched anything. But what caused the change. Automatic is the option it was in the client from the start, but suddenly I can’t play media, even files, that I’ve already played on that device. It works now, thank you.
Automatic is the default setting. Did you reinstall the app recently? If so, you may have had it set to “Image only” previously and the reinstall set it back to the default.
Ok, should I open a new post for my problem. It works with text subtitles, but I have series with picture subtitles, and I get the message again, if I try to play it with subtitles. It seems the problem is different. Also, some of the subtitle lines are not displayed atm (mostly short ones with short duration) and when there are multiple subtitle lines with different coordinates (.ASS) they are shown for really short periods, really fast, while normally they last longer (as only one of the lines can be displayed at a time, not all 3 at the same time, like they were supposed to).
