My problem was fixed. The problem was that apparently my router has DNS rebinding protection enabled and the app was failing to resolve the hostname to my local networks IP address.
The latest build I got fixed the problem and I think that the fix for at least that kind of problem should be out soon.
You can test, if you have the same problem by trying to play some videos from outside your local network (which I did and which worked).

My issue appear only when I’m outside, when I use the 4G+. All it’s good when I’m connect with a Wifi.

I’m having a similar issue but not sure if DNS rebinding is the culprit or not: I can direct play on Android and FireStick over wifi, but I can’t transcode anything. If I turn off wifi and use 4G then I can play anything.
I’m using a pfsense router and used the recommended setting but it made no difference, not sure if it’s a DNS issue since the direct play works.
Since the official update 7.29.0.15583 yesterday, which replaced the working 7.29.0.15288 I got directly from plex, the bug is back. I have already sent logging infrmation to my contact to see. what can be done or what went wrong.

Same here. Pixel 2 XL 7.28 get the “error occurred while attempting to play this video” … server updated to latest version.
Works fine on android TV and on my android tablet.
My shield is back to having to turn off the new player all the time to stay working, but at least that option exists there.
What annoys me most ist, that I had a working fix, which I got via direct download from a plex employee (after sending back and forth several logs), but after that they didn’t include that fix into the next release (nor the one after that), and that employee does not react to my answers in the PMs we communicated earlier.
Hello. I am having this issue on Android devices (Redmi Note & Android TV)
It’s very inconsistent some files play and some will give me this error, I have the latest versions of everything. Has anyone figured out the cause of this issue ?
I am also seeing this error on everything I try and play. Problem started weeks ago on FireTV but now also on Shield. Nothing plays and I get the error message. If I play through my Panasonic TV all works fine. Anythsseing done to resolve
I also have such error on local playback. My workaround is to disable DNS rebind protection on my router and switch off new player in AndroidTV Plex client (7.31.0). Only 2 actions together make local playback work.

I’m having the opposite problem - I think. I can only get video playback to work (locally and remotely) on my android phone, apple TV (new player enabled, it will not work with this disabled), and the Plex website. Video playback buffers eternally on Xbox, Android TV, and the Windows 10 application. Where do I start?
I have an issue playing some files on an Android tablet. It’s detecting the server and syncs correctly as far as my library but if I click certain films i just get a spinning yellow circle and the film cover. If i minimize the app it’ll start playing sound then if i go back to the app i get a black screen and it crashes and the sound stops.
