Mobile Player Error

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368-97add474d
Player Version#: 7.28.0.15501 (ba34f115)

I am receiving the following error whenever I try play a video on my Mobile phone after most recent updates.

“Error
An Error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app.”

I have already restarted the Server and the app as well as restart the computer and the mobile phone numerous times. I also re-installed the app on my phone. the app worked for about an hour. when my phone went to sleep and I woke it up, I got the same error. I repeated the process and I am still getting the same error.

I am having a similar issue. Does it work when at home on wifi, or with wifi off using 4G/5G? Neither?

Same here in the Android app 7.28.0.15501 on 2 devices.
Server = 1.18.7.2438

The web player does still work.
This is annoying to say the least.

To me since the player has been updated to version 7.28 … I have begun to give that error both in the mobile and in two fire stick tv and in the mi box S only reproduces transcoded content if under the level of H264 to 4.0 in the players

I’m also having this issue, on an Android tablet, as well as an Amazon Fire tablet. Didn’t have any issues until the latest update to the Android Plex app. My 2 yr old nephew was heartbroke he couldn’t watch Spiderman on his tablet last night to fall asleep to.

Have more to add now. For me i can play specific video content. If encoded using H.264 (x264) it will play, but everything I encoded using H.264 (AMD VCE) it won’t play. Not sure if that applies to anyone else.

Also getting this on Server Version 1.18.7.2438 and Google Pixel phone running 7.28.0.
Can play some things but not others and from logs seems to be something to do with transcoding but i don’t know.

EDIT: Works over 4G but not over local WiFi

I just rolled back plex app to 7.27.1.15203 and it works fine now. So definitely something in new app update I think.

I have installed 7.27 … on all my Android and Android TV devices and it works perfectly. 7.28 and 7.29 do not work.

The app would not play on wi-fi or cellular network. It only worked in the mobile web browser.
On the app, I changed the H264 to 4.1 instead of the recommended 4.2 and it seems to be working at the moment.
The change was under - Settings > Player > H264 maximum level

HELLO FROM BRAZIL

i am trying the same problem after update 1.18.7.2438

android phones and some smart tvs have this same error message when trying to play something on the server

So it looks like the update changed devices recommended H.264 levels. My tablets were set to 4.1, while my videos were encoded with 4.2. Changing my device level to. 4.2 now allows me to watch them. Might just do the work and re-encode my whole library to a lower level.

In my case, the Fire tv Stick basic sets the H264 level to 5.0 at recommended, the Mibox S to 5.1 and the P20lite to 5.1 and if I set the level above 4.0 the error appears and is not visible.

Right now I have in all my devices the version of the player 7.27.0.14964 with the recommended values and the version of the server 1.18.7.2438 in a Nvidia Shield Tv and it goes perfectly.

Updated to version 1.18.7.2457 the Shield server and continues with the same error :frowning:

I’m on a Huawei Mate 10 and we have two other Samsung devices. All are broken after the latest update. I strongly suspect that Plex Android is currently not working for anyone on the latest version.

Thank you plex team for breaking the app and making it completely unusable even on home network!
A very satisfied plex pass user here

And we still don’t solve this bug …

Well, testing with version 7.29.0.15846-beta and the problem is not solved …

What offends me is not the time it takes to solve, what really offends me is that no one from the plex team has deigned to say at least “ok we are working on it …”

Thanks for solving this problem I can finally see on all my android and android tv devices the contents at 1080p and more than 4.0 of H264 quality.

Although now another small problem arises …

In my server I limit the bitrate of the remote flow in 12 mbps for example. If the client sets the quality limit remotely to the Maximum or a value above the one set on the server, it returns to the error. If I set the limit on the customer at 12 or less it works perfectly.
It happens in all my android clients.

Now it works correctly, Thanks
