Player performance is appalling

@Volts Nope, but the thing is TV is actually can play media, it just starts buffering for no reason at all after a while ( as I said I could play 50 Mbps files with no problem )… I did play some DV files on TV as I explained, so TV has support for it ( Sony Bravia XG950 )…

@FlaTechNole21 said it only supports displaying DV, but that’s not correct. As I said I played DV files on this TV with Plex DirectPlay without problem before. Yes it cannot play the media if it’s on a USB stick ( that’s probably the mediaplayer’s fault ) but it can play if it’s from a streaming source ( like Plex/Netflix ).

I have the same issue with Shield TV Pro (2019) on wired gigabit Ethernet. Files from streaming services like this are unwatchable due to pausing for buffering:

I watch higher bit-rate remux versions of movies created with new versions of MakeMKV in Dolby vision frequently without issue.

Yes I’m having similar issues with some DV content on my Shield Pro 2019. Some DV works flawlessly, others will only play for a few seconds and then sputter without buffering.

I’m having the same issue with mp4 files with DV from streaming services, i.e. stuttering/freezing, buffering and huge bandwidth spikes. UHD Blu-ray remux mkv’s with DV play perfectly. Here’s the mediainfo for an affected file:

So,

It has been 4 months from when I opened the thread and I have something new to add…

Well, I bought a LG OLED G1 65" in my work room, mostly to use with my PC / Consoles… Although of course Netflix/Plex are also in my mind with this TV…

And the results are not good at all…

I tried to play Loki S01E01 over network with horrible results…

Here is the media info:

I clipped subtitle section but that’s not important…

First of all player is a bit different from Android version. At first it seemed ok. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos is detected by TV, it started great. Then about 3-4 minutes in, the audio started to stutter very badly and video/audio desynchronized… There was no transcoding and it was Direct Play.

I also bought an Apple TV 4K ( the new one that just came out ) to see how it handles… Unfortunately it didn’t detect Dolby Vision at all and there were greenish/reddish hues everywhere. Although it did play without audio problem. The only fault was Dolby Vision, which was of course without it it was unplayable at all…

So, I copied my files to a disk and played directly from there. There was almost no problem whatsoever other than the LG’s screen configuration which was stuck on Cinema or Cinema Home etc… I couldn’t use Filmmaker or other extended profiles at all. It was a bit dark but playback was without a hitch.

I connected my LG TV to my router which was beside my TV again… I tried wireless and wired. Again, I don’t know why TV manufacturers insist on 100mbps connection on cable. Is gigabit connection really hard to do on TVs?

So, it should be due to network right? Although plex didn’t show any loading animation or said the network speed is lousy. Only audio stuttered like hell.

BTW, I did check out Mythic Quest also:

This one played without any problem on Plex. As you can see the bitrate is higher than Loki, although it played perfectly.
