The recently released TV section (and “recently added TV” if you have it) of the Home Page links to individual episodes that have recently been added to the system. If the average user sees something they like that is past it’s first episode they have to go to the episodes landing page and navigate themselves to whatever first unwatched season of the show is to find their next chronological episode. With TV series evolving to be continuous stories an improvement to this feature would be to reduce the user navigation. There are a number of ways to tackle this, but the current form is less practical than some of the simple alternatives.
The “recently added TV” and “recently added episodes” sections of the home page serve essentially the same function, “recently added TV” could be optimized to improve the user experience.
“Recently added TV” could just show the show poster, or the most recent season poster and not worry about displaying the season/episode below it. Clicking on the poster would then lead the to show, starting with the earliest season that has unwatched episodes.
“Recently added episodes” isn’t that useful - since the majority of shows are chronological, the update that a later episode is available if the user hasn’t yet watched the earlier ones is not relevant.
In a perfect world I would eliminate “recently added episodes” and improve “recently added tv” to work in the above recommended way.
Not a bad idea. I don’t find much use out of “recently added episodes”, since I rarely watch a show and keep up to date on shows as episodes air. The only exception are the nightly comedy shows (Daily show, Colbert, etc), and it can be useful to know if they aired an episode last night or they are on break.
Generally, however, I rather prefer that when I add a new show, it should ALWAYS link the show itself, not the season I added. I hate adding a 1 season anime, and being unable to quickly view the show’s description or trailer in 1 click because it generated a link to the SEASON 1, rather than the show itself (where I have solo season shows hide the season). Only when a new season of an EXISTING show arrives, do I like it to list the season as a new addition.
Similarly, I’d rather that the “specials” season are not counted when a show lists how many “seasons” I have. A friend was impressed that I had the new second season of a show, when all it was is that I had a special, so it counted “season 1” and “specials” as 2 seasons.
