Since the hw transcoding problem have been reported with Plex server on the Shield I have been occasionally checking updates/testing on a spare Shield so as to not disrupt my primary working fine with the above configuration except running plex 1.23.xxx.
Reran remote tests on this spare today after updating server last week. Playback of recorded programs via direct play (no transcode) works fine. However when I try and play a liveTV channel the server tries to hardware transcode the signal and though it appears from the server logs to be working, the player merely shows the spinning dial and then a black screen before finally putting up the Unexpected Playback Error message.
I tried the trick reported in the hw transcoding on shield thread of disabling HDR tone mapping but that didn’t make a difference. I also have both server and player properly configured to support unsecure connections (which it is using when playback/streaming).
Playback of Live TV channels when accessing remotely works fine on my primary NVidia Shield running 1.23.xxx. Also Playback of Live TV channels when accessing remotely works fine from my web player in the same remote location as the tv (though it uses a secure connection vs an unsecure one).
Also, I can record a LiveTV channel and after completed I am able to play it back. When it plays back it uses direct play/no transcode).
Is this a problem with the Samsung Player?
