Playing AVI files

Over the last few weeks I am unable to play many AVI files now with Plex. What has changed?
I now need to convert them to MP4.
Some do play ok but a lot of others don’t
PC plays ok but not on Apple TV4 and Panasonic TV

I am also not able to play AVI using server 1.17.0.1709-982421575. I downgraded to 1.16.6.1592 and was able to play them again just fine. Old installs are located in AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates and you’ll have to uninstall the current server first.

Thanks Visner, but it would be good to know what they changed and why.
80% of my Library is AVI’s, old school TV Shows dating back 10 years ago

Of course, but right now I’m most worried about playing nightmare before Christmas for the kids. I hope they fix it!

IF ya’ll are using Plexweb, try the Plex Player app - it’s way more capable:

If you have a lot of AVI files I would think the new Player would be the weapon of choice.

Hi Visner

i am on a synology NAS and I too have the exact same problem as you. How do i unistall the update

thanks

Jim

Plex pissed me off with AVI files on XBOX 360 in the early days now having issues with Apple TV4
TBH it was more to do with lip-sync and poor video quality and was told by the forum to change players so I did to ATV4. I bet if I recommission the XBOX the AVI’s will play fine.

Hooray, all fixed in latest Plex 1.18 update
