Playlist needs updates

Plex playlist is a nice idea but I would say needs some work. I’m not sure how it works completely, but I assume its by Database ID, not not really to the item itself as in movie title. I use playlist for movies that have several series, like James Bond. That way when someone would like to binge or watch things in order they don’t have to remember where they were, and what is next. The problem is, if any movie that is added to a custom play list (not playlist created by genre, etc…), and said movie gets replaced by another version, that movie is no longer tied to the playlist. This makes it very hard to maintain custom playlist, and since most of us have everything setup in automation. Movies can be replaces without knowing.

If anyone has any insight on maybe a different way of making custom play list that will remain while items are updated, please let me know…

Do quality updates always this way:

  1. Copy the new files to the media storage (Modify the file names slightly, so they don’t replace the files which are already there. Adding some quality indicator in angular brackets is a good way. i.e. Movie Title (2019) - [BR rip new])
  2. ‘Scan Library Files’
  3. observe the posters getting the ‘duplicate’ indicators
  4. remove the old files
  5. empty library trash

Thank you for the feedback, but this would not make any sense in an automation way. As stated, quality upgrades are automated. Also, still does not address the way Playlist work. When you delete the old file, it will remove it from the playlist if it was manually added, and not added via a filter that stays current during the quality upgrade.
