Playstation VR + Plex

Does anyone know if it’s going to be possible to use the PSVR’s cinematic mode with third party app’s like Plex, or watch Plex media through the PS4’s regular media player?

That would be totally awesome!

We have asked Sony about VR support, and it seems like it’s not something that would be available to us at launch.

Thanks for the answer and hopefully you will get access to the DevKits.

any updated to this as it is scheduled to release in less than a month now.

Would really love to see Plex app updated to support the VR.

Tested the PlayStation VR demo, many around, just search on PlayStation’s site. I have to say, i was amazed.

unfortunately nothing yet.

I’ve been using Plex on the PSVR today. It’s actually very good once you forget about the screen door effect. Unfortunately Plex is constantly crashing or showing the three buffering dots. For the few minutes it did work, The Battle Of Hoth on a 226 inch screen was quite impressive.

Also watched a bit of Pacific Rim and a couple of episodes of Vikings. Fast movement on the larger cinema sizes in the VR headset can get a bit blurry.

How did you enable this? Is this a work-around? Or native implementation?
Bear in mind I don’t actually own a psvr just yet

What I would love to see is like a VR movie theater, where the PSVR headset puts you in a movie theater and your Plex content is what’s on the screen.

Is that something that will ever be possible?

When you start the VR Headset, you get sent to the normal Playstation dashboard. From there you can launch apps and games as usual, but see them through the VR headset. It’s possible to play standard games with the VR headset on one of the three (117, 163, 226 inch) cinema screens as well. You can switch between the sizes quickly with the PS Button.

As the PSVR in cinema modes just acts as a large display, you seem to be able to attach it to anything that has an HDMI socket. Xbox One, Wii etc.

It’s a nice feature, but I will probably stick with my real TV. The motion blur and occasional reminder of the screen door effect can sometimes be too distracting.

Hulu has almost exactly that where they stick you in a virtual living room (or beach, or theatre) and there’s a giant fixed screen right there to watch. I want to watch my stuff in this way with Plex SO bad!

My dream feature is movie theatre mode with 4 seats, and you can hook up with friends and watch the same show.

Yes, Plex being vr enabled would be lovely with rendered theatres etc.

Another feature I suspect is lacking is ps4 pro support. Plex is rendering in 1080p on that system, when in theory it is possible to render in 4K and super sample down to 1080p which should result in cleaner videos even when using the base psvr cinematic mode.
