Please can you tell me what to encode my files to for maximum efficiency?

Hi all,

I have quite a large Plex library that I have put together over the years and its made off all different files types and formats,

I have just put together my latest server based on a Ryzan 7 1600 hexa core chip and a nvidia quadro 2000 GPU,

My question is, what is the best file container and encoding to convert my entire library to in order to make it not transcode as much as possible (if that makes sense?)

My File types are:

  • 4k Movies
  • TV Episodes
  • Films
  • 3D Movies

Please can you tell me once for all the best thing to convert each of these above file types to? (i.e "4K Movies are best being H.264 and MKV")

My Home devices include:

  • XBOX ONE S (for 4K stuff)
  • Built in Android TV on my Sony 4k TV
  • Mobiles phones (IOS and Android)
  • Laptops / desktops
  • Xbox and PS4

Does the ‘Optimise’ thing do this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, that’s this looks complicated haha, will try follow the instructions tomorrow!

It may be a bit more difficult to set up at first.
But once it runs, it’ll save you a ton of time - particularly if you want to “treat” a whole collection of files.
