PLEX 1.09 Client Video Freezes after a few mins - Popcorn Hour

Gents

I have a strange problem and I want to know if anyone else has the same issue and if there is anything that can be done to fix it.

Setup:
Plex MS: Latest (Plex Pass)
Network 1 GB
Nas: Qnap TS-659 Pro II
Device: C200, C300, Popbox 3D (Same issue with all devices)
Plex 1.09
Config.xml - SMB & NFS (Tried both and same problem)

PCH C-200 192.168.1.105

PCH POPBOX 3D 192.168.1.107

OK the problem I am having:

When I play media files from the direct shares mapped to all the devices they work fine. SMB or NFS (TCP or UPD)

When I play those same files from the PLEX app the video plays for about 5 min then it starts to degrade: video gets choppy and audio starts shuttering. It continues to the point of freezing. If I press the pause button and wait about 10 seconds the video /audio returns to normal for about 2 mins and then starts to degrade again. Now this only happens with my 1080p and 720p movies and not with my 720P tv shows.

This only happens in the PLEX app using config.xml or SMB Path, SMB or NFS.
Plex works fine on the XBOX 360, Samsung TV, Ipads, Iphones,
I cant figure it out and it is driving me crazy........

Can anyone help and point me in the right direction to fix this?  I have been to the networkmediatank forums and a helpful user has suggested I post in post here because of the errors in the logs.  Any suggestions???

thanks in advance..

Chris

According to https://forums.plex.tv/topic/120334-i-have-tried-everything-to-get-plex-up-and-running-again-but-i-cant-get-my-server-to-connect/ that log file is only used for DLNA.

Did you check on the PCH whether the file playing is being transcoded or streamed directly?

Is there s way to tell from the PCH directly?  When I check the PMS during the playback of a file the server is idol.  My PMS server has the horse power to transcode if needed. I have seen it transcode 6 streams at once and no issues on other devices.  I am going to run thru it again.  some ramdom 1080p .mkv file and report back

Same thing is happening.  No transcoding, PMS is sleeping.  It does not even show anything playing while PCH-C200 is playing a movie..

Plex doesn't appear to show anything playing on the PCH, it's the same on my A-210. I did put a post on the PCH forum about using the PCH to check if Plex is transcoding. Use the Info button and look at the filename playing. If it shows file.mkv (for MKV files, for example) it's transcoding, if it shows the actual filename it's not transcoding.

Thanks for the info..  When I press info i DO get file.avi  how do I configure the client not to transcode.  I have paths setup in my config.xml and is successful when checked by the client. Use SMB Path is not Checked. Use Native Player is checked.

Any suggestions...

I use NFS sharing from Windows Home Server 2011 installed on an HP Microserser as I find SMB just doesn't play properly on my network for some reason. It also took me ages to get my config.xml to work and Plex not to transcode. This is my file that works after much tinkering:

That is everything in the file exactly as it appears. I don't have the <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> at the top.

I also have the 'Use Native Path' and 'Use SMB Path' options both checked.

In the 'replace from' part of the config.xml, it needs to read exactly as it does in the Folders tab of the library settings in Plex server.

I hope some of that helps. My getting it to work was trial and error based on what was said in the PCH forum thread. Once I'd got it working, I just left it as it was and still is.

I want to thank you.  I must of missed something in the way i setup the config.xml file.  When I changed the

to

everything this started to work perfectly.

I agree with you on the NFS front.  I just have to redesign the way PMS looks at my network drives. A lot of symbolic links to follow (To complicated to tell you).  Now that I have this working I will tackle this in the coming weeks.

Again thank you for all the info and help.

Chrid

for reference my Config.xml look like this:

Glad to have been of some help and I'm happy to hear you've got it working. :)

HI, I am having similar problems.

My server died and I set up a new machine, now, I see this happening, when I never had issues before.

I have c200 and a200 running plex 1.09.

Where do I find the config file?
