Plex Amp on Linux

Thank you for releasing Plex Amp for Linux. I feel loved.

Perfect :

  • Integrates perfectly with TopIcons Plus on Gnome.
  • Gnome notifications work when changing songs.
  • Media hotkeys on my Thinkpad work flawlessly from any screen.
  • Visualizers are AWESOME.
  • FLAWLESS gap-less playback. As someone that mostly listens to albums the whole way through, YES!!!
  • Thick seekbar to easily click.

Bugs I’ve noticed :

  • Even with ‘Always on top’ checked, it doesn’t work after a restart. I have to manually turn the setting on and off for it to stay on top.
  • Sometimes, if I quit Plex Amp while a song is still playing, it will continue to play until I relaunch the app and stop it.
  • When it reaches the end of a playlist, I can’t get back to the main menu so I have to restart Plex Amp. Typing anything in discovery doesn’t show results, clicking the back arrow doesn’t do anything either.

Features I would like :

  • Arrow keys navigation. Ability for only keyboard control would be awesome to easily navigate around.
  • Ability to sync songs for offline playback.
  • Fullscreen visualizers!
  • Sometimes instead of clicking the block, I have to click within the letters. I’d like to be able to just click the block.
  • It would be nice to have an indication of what quality I’m playing at.

I’m running v1.0.2 on Arch Linux.

I was a long time user of WinAmp, but could never find a proper replacement on Linux and Plex Amp has changed that.
I like not having the huge grid of music to choose from, I usually search if I want something specific anyways. I usually just shuffle when I don’t know what to play, so it’s interesting that radio uses some sort of algorithm to shuffle. (Will have to try Time Travel in the morning)
I like the dog/llama picture in the about page, I understand it’s a homage to Winamp, but I’m left wondering what is the significance of the dog?

Once again, thank you for Plex Amp, I’m really loving it! Totally makes my plex pass worth it. Can’t wait to see what the next update brings!

Super great feedback, @nnhoang, thanks!

We’ll investigate, might be a silly bug.

It’s something to do with the process tree not dying properly…probably not terribly hard to fix.

That’s … odd. Anything in the Application.log file? That should work (and works over here).

We’d like this too.

That’s Barkley Bonestein, the Plex mascot (and my dog).
