I installed Plexamp to enjoy my music on the go, and well… I enjoyed finding out despite all my video issues, i can have them on the music side as well.
I can browse nearly 3000 tracks. but i shared a folder with nearly 30K songs. I was sure i read on this site, it will use Metadata in cataloging, if it cannot find the “popular” tracks in some online database.
I have a lot of less than mainstream songs (like mashups) but i DO pride myself is giving them SOME metadata for browsing ease. I spend the literal days fine tuning the meta data over the years. I can not understand how it decimated my library in deciding what appears.
if there’s some naming convention i need to follow, i was not directed to one. help is greatly appreciated. i was lead to believe it was less fussy than the TV shows library method.
If you literally have a single folder of 30k files, that is probably going to make Plex freak out. However, if your files have basic tags (Album Artist, Album, Title, Number) then it is very easy to have a tool like mp3tag write them out into the right directory structure.
They were organized on my PC by media monkey organizer so they are in artist, and album subfolders. Even the singles have a folder
before that, it was Itunes
ok. I realized “check music library automatically” was unchecked. and now songs are appearing. I will wait to see when its done, if it does get them all, or some are still excluded.
OK, good. You see some crazy things around here, I thought you might have been literal about that.
Make sure that each track has its Album Artist tag filled out. In my experience this is one of the most important tags to Plex. If you have Album Artist, Artist, Title and Track number it should be OK.
Oh, if you have any compilations it’s very important to put them in an Artist folder named Various Artists, and to use the same for the Album Artist tag.
The Album name is whatever it is.
Album Artist must be “Various Artists”
Each track’s Title and Artist tag are whatever they are.
And all such albums need to be in a folder called “Various Artists” that is in with your other artist folders.
