Plex Amp

I recently heard about the Plex Amp app for music listening, while watching Byte my Bits on YouTube. I loaded it onto my android and it performs very well, minus one thing that will pretty much prevent me from using it without a lot of work on my part for re-organizing my library from within the server. Under the Library tab, there is not a function that allows you to access music from a given folder, and with plex being on my windows machine, organizing by folder is the easiest way to keep things straight. I have been playing music from my plex mobile app while in the car or at work, but i’m thinking the Plex Amp app is going to be way better for this type of mobile file access. The biggest issue that I have right now without having folder access, the app blends my music, audio books, and old time radio shows all together and my “favorites” folder is in there but just blended in with everything else. Trying to build a playlist in Plex with the 4000 plus songs i have in my favorites folder will take hours of selecting to put in the playlist. Basicly it means reconfiguring everything, and then it doesnt work well with my home network sharing, OR it means countless hours IN plex creating playlists. A simple folders option under the library menu would make things a lot easier for those of us that extensively use folders in our organization. Just my 2 cents, i’m not a programmer, so don’t understand how much extra work it would mean to add this feature, but I can tell you, i would be done with all of the other streaming services if this one feature was included with Plex Amp. Beyond that, this app looks awsome, does a lot of really cool interactive things, and connects to my server even better than the plex mobile app that i have on the same android. Keep up the good work Plex team, and hopefully, my issue is an easy adjustment on your side?

NOT a Plex Dev i’m just another user, but i would suggest fixing your library… it might seem painful but when it’s all organized it’s well worth it. Even if the Plex team came back with a solution for people who use folders, your self organizing is going against the grain. As time goes on it’ll be more difficult to maintain.
Also, I would suggest separating your audio books, music, and radio shows into their own library/folder.
several years ago my plex library was all over the place, in regards to metadata not folder structure… It took me what seemed like two years to get everything tagged, but once i did OMG was it well worth it. I’d binge on a show while fixing everything.
as for your “favorites”… I’m thinking that’s what ratings, collections, or playlists are for.

I have to agree. What are you using folder for that you can do with the Plex Metadata? There are a lot of tools out there that can read the tags you have and turn them into the Plex folder structure, or, can read your folder structure and turn them into tags.

Once everything is in Plex correctly you’ll find PlexAmp to be a fantastic tool.

Which tools can you recommend here please?

I use folders in the Plex app too, because it’s easier to search for full albums in my library.

I use mp3tag which (despite the name) supports a bucket of formats (even used it for video):
