Hello.
I am brand new user of Plex. I am currently using Plexserver only for my own collection of music and audio files. My collection is organised in folder view. I have a lot of compilations with various artists. A lot of albums. There is no way to properly tag all the files. If I am going to tag all of the files, I will be dead before I finnish.
I also use other music streaming providers (like Spotify, Apple Music…) and all of those apps has proper UI for selecting Albums, Genre, Playlists…
Is there going to be any update to get those menu selection? Also to get Folder play available for selection?
It will be also good, If there was an option to change background app color for orange-brown to any other more darker version. Maybe orange-dark grayscale.
Best regards.
Server Version#: 1.41.5.9522
Player Version#: Plexamp 4.12.4
I disagree. If your folder organization is already serving to categorize your files, it is quite easy to utilize that for generating fitting meta tags.
There are meta tag apps which can parse folder and file names and derive meta tags from them.
Another method would be the use of Musicbrainz Picard, which uses the Musicbrainz database of music releases (the same that Plex is mainly using). It can compare your folders with existing discs and thus fetch metadata from them.
I tried Musicbraind Picard and it makes a massive mess.
Its OK for retail studio albums. That is OK.
But for mixes/remixes, homemade mixes/remixes, own folder playlists etc… It finds metadata from wrong music or retail music. Wrong covers and album info.
Or you have a compilation and then Picard mix info from retail studio albums. So you cannot find that compilation, because that compilation does not exist anywhere else other than in that folder.
You can make a playlist, but If you have plenty folders, you have to much playlist.
I do not see, what is so difficult to do one line for AAuto, to get access to folders. Plexamp does support Folder play in the bottom of the library.
If there is a security issue with AAuto, they can do that selection is only possible when car is not in motion.
Almost all new cars in 2025 has AAuto/Carplay. Some have AAutomotive… Do not see why the restriction of function. People will be happy if they can get function which they would use.
