PLEX and Alexa

Player Version#:
Netgear based PLEX Server.
Stuff work great inside the Intranet of my home
We have fairly slow Internet – rural networking problem.
The PLEX server has 20+ GB of music cataloged locally on the NAS.
I want to have Alexa used to select and play some music with its voice recognition capability…
Question: Does PLEX/Alexa take my music data from the local NAS and send it ‘upstream’ to ‘downtown Alexa’ and then it is sent back downstream to the Alexa device?

If so my Internet will fall down. If PLEX reaches across my Intranet to locate the NAS data then stuff will probably work great.

Any help would be appreciated.

From what I have been able to tell, the PLEX Alexa Skill will stream off your local server to Amazon servers back to your echo. Yes servers - sometime more than one Amazon server during a single song. The easiest way to tell is to view your dashboard while playing your server music using the PLEX Alexa skill and watch the IP change.

But if your internet is down, your Echo be down too… you could connect your Echo via bluetooth though to your phone and depending on how you have it set up… it could be possible.

The response above is correct.

If your internet isn’t reliable, you shouldn’t use Alexa.

Thanks to those who replied.

Apparently this works as I expected. My Internet is reliable but it is slow. Sending content up top Downtown Alexa and back would be a strain.
