what about the best set up for roku stick? if I set up to the max video quality, video seems unable to play… I need to set up to max 12 mpbs…
do you have suggestions?
anyway there is a particular function that is called overscan with the roku stick, that I don’t have with my samsung smart tv , does it means a bit of scan?
overall the quality with roku seems better than with my smart tv. I dunno why , I haven’t changed the tv video options, are the same…
I come from the hardwire school so I would trade it in for a roku 3 or 4! :))
The best use for a Roku Stick is to put under a short table leg to keep it from wobbling. That or as a cat toy and I hear Fire Sticks are also good in that capacity.
You can try one of these for $6 in an effort to get the thing away from the back of the TV so it can work better:
However it’s very likely it just can’t work better, because it was designed to be a key chain fob novelty item and then someone in engineering decided to waste a lot of time that could have been used fixing the Roku 4 and the New Line of Rokus to actually put some electronics in it. Not only that, but they’ve sold so much of that junk they’ve actually got several models all equal in their unreliability.
Roku 3 is the ONLY device that can be considered bulletproof. Roku wants this new line of Rokus to replace the Roku 3 in that capacity, but so far all they seem to be doing is dashing hopes and breaking hearts and that has the Roku Apologists working overtime.
I have a Roku 3. I would not hesitate to buy another one should this one go up in smoke, but it’s so reliable there’s little chance that will happen. The Plex app for Roku also enjoys the top slot in all the Plex apps - it’s a shame that at this time there’s really only one Roku to run it on.

is not that bad man!!! I have no problem watching plex with roku stick… it is better than my smart tv… anyway I have an hdmi hub with my tv…
in order to use it ,i have to set up to max 12 mpbs bitrate…
the only problem using roku stick is their wifi receiver… but fortunately my router is not that distant, it should be very near to the stick…
I was just curious why if i set up to max video quality it goes wrong with buffering and so on…
anyway I dunno why it is better than my smart tv… is there a quality video difference between smart tv app and direct dlna from my tv…
sorry man I’m not a native english speaking so interesting to know what top slot means? I understand probably the meaning but I haven’t found a meaning even on internet… thank ya very much!!!
Top Slot = Leader, Best, King, Ultimate, Most Advanced, Best in Design and Function, etc.
The Roku Stick can’t do original quality because it’s very likely the bit rates of those MakeMKV BluRay rips you have exceed the Stick’s WiFi radio’s ability to get an adequate signal through the noise bubble at the back of your TV Set. If you have a ‘Hub’ you have the Stick located away from the back of the TV and so you are now finding out the limitations inherent in the design of a glorified Key Chain Fob/Table Leg Equalizer/Cat Toy.
Your only option when using a Roku Stick is to knock down the quality in the Plex app and have Plex transcode a version that can be reliably received by a Roku Stick. That or encode a version to ‘Merge’ with your original version so that you can select the lower quality version in the hopes that it will Direct Play and at least show up with the same quality you created yourself.
The problem with DLNA isn’t really a problem unless you need, for some reason, to have Plex transcode. It is my understanding that when using the DLNA server transcoding isn’t possible so it’s Direct Play or the Highway and I have no idea how to say that in a way you’ll understand.

I guess the best possible scenario would be an HDMI port in the router you could plug the Stick into. That should negate any ‘distance issues’.

I don’t think it transcodes… actually I have the roku server in a going to be repaired pc where the cpu is at 80 degrees celsius. . with throttling and very very slow pc…
it would be unable to process a transcoding…
next week going to repair the pc with a new cpu fan and harddrive…
mostly probably files with less than 12 mbps I have no problem… no transcoding
with more 12 mpbs I need to set full quallity… anyway it never stop the streaming… up to now…
moreover THE QUALITY OF IMAGE WITH ROKU STICK SEEMS BETTER THAN MY SAMSUNG SMART TV APP
so at the end I think there is no transcoding
TRUE OPINION WITH NO TRANSCODE WITCH IS BETTER DLNA OR SAMSUNG SMART TV APP…
???
Just say that with files more than 12 mpbs it appears the message no more space… but just selecting full quality to the menu solved the problem up to now …
anyway overscanning how much does it impact on the quality of the video???

None. It’s only an ‘adjustment’ in the way the app is displayed on some TVs. Sometimes the Plex screen doesn’t fit on a TV exactly right and ‘overscanning’ may help. The word in English is different, but I think I understand what you’re saying.
yeah overscan is the option on the menu… it should affect the quality of the image… like zooming… in reality for my personal opinion seems beneficial a bigger image…
anyway I think plex app on samsung tv seems a junk app… roku seems better even the stick…
A’ight.
If you have any ‘issues’ or ‘suggestions’ The Roku/Plex Forum would be the place to go. The Roku/Plex developer is a very skilled person - and also speaks many (most) languages all at once:

Tell him I said, ‘Hi’, in whatever language you like.
