I’ve been reading countless threads on recent problems users are having with PLEX. I’ve mainly noticed how disappointed users are with mobile/app interface changes and I’m among one of those users. I signed up for a Lifetime PLEX Pass when the UI/UX was clean, easy to navigate and customizable. Though, it had it’s performance issues, I always found a solution or an update that resolved it.
PLEX is a company looking to profit, that’s what they’ve always been. Please don’t be naive in thinking they were going to cater to our personal server “ripped media” needs forever. I’m sure more changes are coming where ads will be implemented into the UI and developers will make updates based on profit, not end-user. I see PLEX growing too fast and not being able to support the multiple apps they have developed. Problems need to be addressed before moving on to new features.
I believe the PLEX community and developers need to find common ground between making money and pleasing the users that helped them grow. Developers need to start listening to users in these threads and start implementing the requested changes. We need more customization and ability to cater the interface to our needs. The users need to accept that changes WILL be made with profits in mind first. Which is not always a bad thing, more profits will result in more developers tackling the issues we have.
I would like to see a comprehensive online resource where PLEX is being transparent on changes taking place and what plans are for future updates. You already have my money, just give me an idea whether or not I should be sticking around or looking for alternatives to my media server needs.
Unfortunately, this is counter to the competitive nature of the market in which Plex is trying to be a leader. In other words: ain’t ever going to happen, Plex has stated as much.
Honestly, if you’re not happy with how Plex is RIGHT NOW, then move on. If you’re paying for an annual Plex Pass or have already paid for a lifetime Plex Pass, you can always check back every few months to see how things are going. But if using Plex on a daily basis is causing you more grief than joy, then it’s time to say: it’s been fun but I’m moving on.
I wouldn’t say it’s causing me grief, but definitely more of an annoyance. PLEX server is working fine, it’s just the terrible layout of the PS4, Xbox and Android UI that gets me. I’ll wait to see what PLEX does in the near future as re-configuring my media server isn’t a quick process, and one that I don’t have time for at the moment. But Kodi may be a very viable option.
I 100% agree with this OP. I search for issues and problems I’ve having online and find that users had these issues as far back as 2010. The issues (very simple ones, too) are not fixed. Things work inconsistently. The end-product for clients is inconsistent at best.
I have Plex Pass Lifetime (though not on this account because my other username is my real name) - but I sometimes regret my choice and wish I’d evaluated other options first before spending the money.
It seems staff and people on these forums alike do not really care about end user issues, and had I known this I probably wouldn’t have spend the $$$ initially.
People who bought a lifetime pass need to keep things in perspective. For me it cost about one weeks groceries. I’ve had about 3 years out of it. Plex for the most part is still doing what I need it to do.
I do understand the frustrations though. I still have no grid guide and sometimes my shows only play for a second and then stop, requiring me to click on them again. Meanwhile Plex are spending their time working on News, Podcasts and VR, none of which are core functionality.
I understand the lifetime pass cost to value ratio but I wasn’t the one that set the price, PLEX did. If they needed more money for development resources then they should have increased the price. I would have no issue paying four times that as long as everything worked. I’m not a fan of justifying service issues due to cost, that is on the company to quantify and set.
Totally agree though, it feels like they’re rushing out new features before resolving past issues.
