Plex has recently no doubt made it tough for long term users to stick around by the overall simplifying of the Plex experience. To have a dedicated HTPC exceeding $3,000 look and feel the same as a $30 Roku stick is indeed disappointing (especially considering what PHT offered for desktop beforehand). I myself stopped my yearly pass early this year in order to show my disapproval of the direction.
Buuuut I’m stubborn (maybe stupid) and purchased a lifetime Plex Pass to show my support even when everyone else switched to Emby and other solutions. I still think the Plex experience is by far ahead of everything else out there, but lagging behind what Plex use to be like several years ago in terms of the user experience. Simplicity is good, but options are better. I would love more options and customization for the way we view and handle media like Plex had before, and believe this will happen over time. So I’m sticking around for the long haul and hope long term users consider the same. We’ve invested too much time and energy to bail now. Let’s keep the developers honest
Well I just hope you’ll be getting a decent and supported Plex client for your €3000 HTPC at some point
PS I think most of the switching (which i haven’t done yet) hasn’t got to do with actual software but more privacy, trust and communication (or the lack thereof)
Yeah I’m still hoping PMP becomes a step up from other clients since desktop has much more power in most cases.
Privacy, trust and for sure communication is at an all time low for Plex, but I’m hoping it turns around. Or I may be a fool for being optimistic who knows time will tell I guess lol.

Cheers,
You should probably look at using Kodi with one of the plugins (plex for Kodi, or plexkodiconnect). They’d provide all the playback abilities and options of Kodi with the backend simplicity of Plex.

PKC is awesome but unsupported on both platforms, PFK seemed nice but it’s as good as dead now and won’t run on Kodi 18 unfortunately.
PKC, OpenPHT and all those 3rd party choices are great, but they aren’t officially supported by Plex and can be abandoned anytime users get tired of keeping it up. Hence PKC not being available on Kodi 18. I don’t really want to get hooked on using unsupported players for that simple reason.
If they add Skinning/Themes to PMP it would open up a whole new community that hasn’t been active since PHT and likely give PMP a much needed push in the right direction. One can hope right? @tobiashieta

Strangely enough many use those unofficial because they definitely wont be abandoned, (Orca’s Samsung TV app. Open PHT, PKC)
whilst they know that the official apps will .
(Plex UWP app , PlexForKodi, both official, both complete graveyards.)

There is hope and then there is fantasy.
Exactly. Playstation app also hasn’t had a real update in forever. PS4 pro still not supported for 4K.

I only believe in the change once the current CEO has been replaced.
I think the objective with communication from my perspective is to not engage in topics that are highly critical of the direction or functionality of Plex. I see some people like @BigWheel replying often with help regarding troubleshooting and things of that nature, but most developers are staying FAR away from any critical feedback topics or user suggestions regarding the direction of Plex.
@tobiashieta@vlang@elan and others use to at least respond to user suggestions and criticism (even though they were somewhat vague answers, they let you know they were at least paying attention lol) so I would much rather see that than silence.
Is Plex roundtables still a thing? I was supposed to be on the very first one but work got in the way and hate I missed it. I’m gonna remain optimistic as all the developers are really good guys and are just doing what they feel is best. I just hope the current CEO or whoever running the current Plex show doesn’t ruin it.
Holy crap, how much more does it need? If a public company would produce 3 major ■■■■-ups in just one quater (!!!) than I really don’t want to know what the consequences would be.
Plex currently feels more like a student’s side-project, than a serious business.

Yea… that ship has sailed.
If Plex wants to be something they haven’t already become - it’s gonna have to happen AFTER the Coup.
Still… having said that… there’s nowhere to go, so if The Coup can be pulled off in a timely fashion the hemorrhaging of users may be able to be contained - somewhat. Then there’s always the chance that current managerial decisions are designed to ‘wash away’ the undesirable user base, leaving only those that will lay on the floor, mouths agape, to swallow anything Plex decides to drop in, gleefully paying for the abuse… the ‘Perfect User’.
