Estonia is also waiting and willing to pay for the app. Any other ways to help?
Italy willing to make noise too :)
Let find a way to let Panasonic know we are disappointed!
Maybe if they used jQuery, http://developer.vieraconnect.com/ wouldn't look and act like crap.
Always good to read the thread first :) They use jquery on developer.panasonic.com ;)
I am still going back & forth with Panasonic on this. Their current concern is that I used jQuery extensively, including all communication with the Plex server. They are apparently unfamiliar with jQuery (which is quite shocking, since it is the most popular Javascript framework in the world and is used on developer.veiraconnect.com & www.panasonic.com) and are pushing back. I am trying to be patient and provide them all of the information I can.
If you guys want a cheap solution while waiting, I recommend the Raspberry Pi with either rasplex or raspbmc. I’m currently running raspbmc, controlling the Pi with the Panasonic TV remote via hdmi-cec. I take power from the USB of the TV, and I’ve got a USB hdd with external power.
Works really good, and it’s hidden behind the TV since it uses the IR of the TV.

Can it play 1080p videos? I wasn't able to find any info on this.
Yes.
I just submitted a new version to Panasonic that removes all use of the $.ajax call. I am hoping this is sufficient to get the app approved.
Oh yeah. Upon further reflection, I believe the app has a ways to go and version 1 should be free. This will open it up to all countries - not just North America & Europe. Once the app is accepted, I may open up a way to contribute to future development.
Is it possible to get any pictures of the ui?
You should consider setting up a donations page. If everyone on this thread chucked you a couple of quid it would at least cover your developer licence.
I suppose he already has it covered and as it hits the shelves all off us will buy it anyways
Kickstarter might be an ideal way to fund version 2.

I agree, that version 2 can easily be crowdfunded:)
The latest note from Panasonic is not encouraging:
We don’t think with the API published in the portal can be used to make an App which can communicate or operate an external device (PC, SD Card etc). To achieve this you either have use another API or hack our TV. Hacking is prohibited in our agreement.
Sigh. Apparently it's not jQuery they have a problem with, but any use of AJAX (i.e., XMLHttpRequest). This is all standard HTML stuff:
http://www.w3.org/TR/2006/WD-XMLHttpRequest-20060619/
I will continue to push, but if they insist that external communication is not allowed, then obviously a Plex app is never going to happen.

Really strange as almost every app on the store has some form of communication!

What a ridiculous statement from Panasonic.
How do they think apps like Netflix work?
They just seem to be putting obstacles in the way for the sake of it.
I admire your tenacity VieraApp.

I mean OBVIOUSLY Netflix, YouTube etc. don't operate off any kind of server at the backend and no control of any external device is required to get those to work. What a ridiculous statement from Panasonic.

These guys he's dealing with are either a) idiots or b ) just plain awkward.
If such communication is allowed on other TVs I don't know what's special about Panasonic.
No joke? Is Panasonic serious? What is wrong with them?
It seems, that I begin to regret, that I havn't bought a Samsung TV...
Same here next tv will most likely be samsu as they have allll the apppps…Panasonic seems to be a dead horse if they continue this way…
I emailed Panasonic today and told them where I stand on this. Linked to this page, as well as the one on Slashdot. Told them to please forward to someone higher up in the system to let them know as well..
God, I hope someone at Panasonic takes action and approves this app..
