issue 1:
Plex submitted a new app for Panasonic TV. Old app work very nice, any file play on TV without problem without transcode (h264, h265, audio in AC3 5.1, etc etc)… now most file don’t play with the error "Errore in riproduzione " “si è verificato un problema di riproduzione imprevisto” and a large “OK” button.
issue 2:
i have plex pass and multi user, i’m looking for a way to keep latest user logged in… i use pin for the users, so it’s not comfortable to enter. In Android, Fire TV… but also in old panasonic app this function work, now it’s missing.
I don’t want to transcode files, old version work… for now the only workaround is to use an Amazon Fire Stick (crazy).
Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931
Player Version#: 5.22.1 WebGL
same problem! Almost not all files are playable! I expected Plex to work on Panasonic with the update. Looks like I shouldn’t have bought this TV !! But my Android stick with PLEX works properly!
Here is the screenshot of file which can not be playing.
By the way Direct play and Direct stream are switched on.
Plex Media Server v1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: 5.22.1 WebGL
Panasonic TV FX780
So you have problems also with h264… oh damn, it is worst of which i supposed.
the sad thing is that old app work like a charm, even if the interface was obsolete… now the gui is cool, but the app is terrible.
It was not important that the app was ugly… it worked very well.
Now the app is very cool, but don’t work. What thing is better for plex developer? Very interesting question indeed.
For now the workaround is to use an external player Android based… I suggest you “Mi Box S 4K” for example.
Same issues here on a 55GZ1000 with HEVC and some, but not all, h264.
It seems specifically due to the Panasonic app, as chromecasting the same files, same quality, same TV works like a charm. Adding subtitles seems to add trouble as well.
Hi , there is definitely an issue with the new app, wireshark below shows TV GET directplay=0 when direct play is ticked on the settings. It also says the TV capabilities are 1920x1080 when in fact its a 4K screen. Only h264 files will play, no HEVC files will even transcode, as wireshark from an hevc file shows the app GET with directstream also at 0
As mentioned in another thread, the error goes away if you limit video quality to 720p 3 mbps. In the logs I found
[Player] A critical Shaka error occurred: s4012 (Unknown); the player cannot recover
Playback error occurred. Reason: Unknown, An unknown player error occurred. code: s4012, message: Manifesto: RESTRICTIONS_CANNOT_BE_MET
The Shaka player documentation states:
There exist some streams that could be decoded, but restrictions imposed by the application or the key system prevent us from playing. This may happen under the following conditions:
The application has given restrictions to the Player that restrict at least one content type completely (e.g. no playable audio).
The manifest specifies different keys than were given to us from the license server.
The key system has imposed output restrictions that cannot be met (such as HDCP) and there are no unrestricted alternatives.
This is because they choose to use a web app, old native app has not any kind of limit. Maybe instead of shaka videojs is better, but i think that is difficult reach quality of old native app. Rather for me new app is unusable… I own all videos in 1080p and x265, transcode is not a solution or an option for me.
Same issue here. The new panasonic tv app only play transcoded files down to 720p 4mb/s. Everything else do not play. Please fix this? The old app worked just fine, but i can’t use it anymore. If u do not want to fix the new app at least give back the old one?
Remember everyone the Panasonic app isn’t officially supported. They have not advertised it as being supported for a number of years. If an update has unfortunately broken it then people will likely have to just use another player. I have Apple TV plugged into mine but for most things I have tried the built in app does still work okay. Its never handled 4K well so I use the Apple TV app or infuse if the Tv app doesn’t work.
This is not the case, we are not talking of 4k… Sorry, but we said that they made a new app, not an update. New app is totally different. And is crapware.
Plex has not officially supported Panasonic TVs since 2019. There has been no official announcement of an updated Panasonic app. It is possible something in the background or on another app has changed and that is why we now have an updated version and interface, however unfortunately we cannot expect them to fix something they don’t officially support. I know you specifically weren’t talking about 4K I’m just using that as an example of what doesn’t work on my Panasonic which is why I also use an Apple TV.
If Plex does not support smart tv Panasonic, then why did Panasonic include Plex (by the way, non-working) in its apps market? As it is not serious for such a giant as Panasonic !!!
They wrote: " Panasonic The app is available on select, specific TV model lines, only in the European market"
So, if you don’t want to fully support Panasonic… instead to change a working app with a broken app (yes, they did this thing, do you understand? We should repeat it?)… you should remove it from the market.
If you want to partially support Panasonic, you should avoid that a broken app replace an old-but-working-and-not-supported app for the other models…
Plex was not transparent and has “damaged” a lot of users with this change. This is the point, not “but they don’t want to support, but they are lame, but they are cool”. They don’t want support? Just remove the app.
It seems you’re the one who doesn’t understand. They stopped supporting the app in 2019… in 2020 an upstate broke the app and they kindly fixed it. However they stated even at this point that future updates may unfortunately break the app.
So they have given prior warning that the app is not going to work forever and most people, myself included have been prepared for this scenario.
Which part of plex pages don’t you understand? “Panasonic, the app is avaiable on select specific tv model lines”… yes, i’m european and own a Panasonic that had the new supported app! But it is crapware, old app was better.
That is a recent addition to the page. Panasonic is ALSO listed further down the page in the not support section which reads states:
While we previously offered apps for the following smart TV platforms and models, they are no longer actively supported. An older version of our app may still be available on the devices, but the old app will not be receiving updates, may not be compatible with newer features or server releases, and could stop being functional in the future.
Tip! : Since these platforms and models are no longer supported, we encourage users to instead make use of a modern Plex app on a supported platform. For instance, we have Plex apps available on Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, game consoles, etc.
I’m not going to keep going round in circles here. Theres been an update to the app, certain things have stopped working. It might be fixed, it might not, it looks like Panasonic support is sketchy at best. The recommendation would still be to have more than one device you can use as a player. Throughout my household I have Plex apps on my Panasonic TV, Apple TV, Xbox Series X, Google TV, PS5 and LG TV. If one of the apps has a bad update I have plenty of other options until if/when it is fixed.
