Plex app for TiVo roamio keeps stopping

I am a big Plex fan, so I was delight to find out the Plex was available on the TiVo Roamio series. Previously I was using Plex through ROKU which worked flawlessly. However, the Plex app on my Roamio keeps stopping when I start to watch something from my media. Sometimes I can what a show or movie with no problems. Other time it will stop every 5 to 10 minutes and take me back to the TiVo central screen . I assume this is a Plex app problem since this does not happen with any other apps on TiVo. Anyone else having this issue? Oh, can someone add Plex for TiVo as a category?

I’m having the EXACT same problem. I don’t even know where to begin since I can’t access logs on the TiVo. I reached out to TiVo and they told me I had to reach out to Plex… and of course the only support is here.

When I use the Plex app on my Roku or Amazon Fire Stick, the Plex app is rock solid and never crashes.

Can anybody help us?

I am having similar issues, but sporadically on my TiVo Premiere. It happened to me one night while watching a show.

My daughter was watching a show with it tonight and it started getting stuttering, jerky video as well. I think they still have some work to do on it.

Stuttery/jerkey video can be an issue with your Plex server not being powerful enough to transcode the video.

I would look at the CPU usage on your plex server when a video is being played, see if it’s pegged at 100%.

wesmjc and my issue is that the Plex app on the TiVO completely quits during playback.

I think I found the solution from another forum that I posted to that seemed to solve my problem.

1.Open the Plex app on the Roamio box
2. In the top right corner of the screen select your user name then select Settings
3. scroll down to Video
4. UNCHECK the ‘Allow Direct Stream’ box

Hopefully there will be a fix for this in the future. Once I did this, I no longer had a playback stop and return to the TiVo central screen. It was also suggested if the problem persist then uncheck ‘Allow Direct Play’ also, transcoding at this point will be completely done by the server.

Hope this help everyone out there having this problem.

Hi everyone. We just opened up our [Smart TV forum to help with TiVo issues](https://forums.plex.tv/categories/plex-for-smart-tvs-non-samsung.

The TiVo Premiere is a very constrained device. All Series 4 and Series 5 TiVo units require transcoding to play media over 4Mbs and only will direct play MP4 videos with H.264 (AVC level <= 4) video and aac or ac3 audio. An excellent Plex TiVo experience really relies on a powerful PMS or compatible video files.
