Plex App for Vizio Smart TV Won't Play ANYTHING

I’m at a loss. I’m unable to watch anything from my Plex Media Server when using a Vizio Smart TV. There are two Vizio devices that view my service. One is accessing remotely and the other is local (on the same network as my Plex Server). Both devices are able to access the server. Both can see all the content. On the local device, when I try to play something, will show the rotating circle & eventually give me a Playback Error (An unexpected playback problem occurred.). The remote device will get the same rotating circle, but will have the sound from the program selected. It doesn’t get the Playback error. When I check the server Dashboard when these devices are attempting to play, it shows they are connected, but buffering (see photo).

I have already reset the server. I’ve also reset the apps on the Vizio (which signs it out) and reconnected using the 4 digit code. That hasn’t helped. Just an FYI, I have another local ROKU device in another room (on the same network as the server) and it has no problem accessing content.

I ran into this issue yesterday. Just got a new Vizio M series Tv and Plex wouldn’t play anything, giving the same unexpected playback error. For what it’s worth, Plex started working after a factory reset.

I’ll have to check & see if it’s fixed for me too. After 2-3 days without being able to watch my server I just said to hell with it and purchased a Roku stick.

@Steve-Pippin : Just saw this because thevizio tag was added. Let me know if you still have the issue.

@ruuk I’ve been having this issue, just like OP. It seems to have lined up with when the updated version of the TV app came out. I also did a reset from within the app, but still can’t get anything to play.

I just re-read the other folks’ comments and realized they did a full factory reset of the tv itself. And like they experienced, Plex is now working for me, too.
