Attempting to play anything on Vizio Smart TV breaks basic tv functions

I used the Plex app on my Vizio TV to watch a movie this weekend, but now when you try to play any movie or show (including the same movie that worked not 48 hours ago) I just get the spinning circle and the title never starts. After this happens the TV will no longer stream any content from Netflix, Prime, Disney+, etc. They all get the spinning circle and the movie/show never loads.

I still have connectivity because I can browse titles across all platforms (plex, prime, netflix, disney+). Additionally, some basic TV functions stop working. You can’t change Inputs (it does nothing). You can’t press the home button to get back to the “smartcast” screen. The only way to resolve this is to power off the TV, unplug the TV, press and hold the power button on the TV down for 3-5 seconds and then plug the TV back in.

Once you do this everything appears to work fine until you try to play anything in Plex that then causes the same issue to repeat. I can still access and stream Plex from any mobile device, web browser, FireTV stick, etc. on the same network.

Not sure where the issue lies exactly and I’ve factory reset the tv as well as making sure my Plex server is all up to date.

I have not had a chance to experiment any more with what it will and will not do because it causes the TV to “crash” and I have to restart it. I did try doing a factory reset of the TV which triggered the TV to update to the latest version and that had no effect on the situation.

I like the Vizio Plex app and it was working perfectly just before, and I’d hate to have to put a FireTV stick into a perfectly good Smart TV just to be able to watch Plex. I will gladly provide any other info, just ask.

Looks like the recent Plex server update changed enough of something that this isn’t happening anymore (or at least my Vizio TV hasn’t updated since last week)

i fit does happen again try turning on logging to server in the app before trying to reproduce issue. hopefully we will be able to see something in the server logs.
