So - Plex Arcades has shut down, but there is a LOT of code there that allows for he emulation to occur in browser, and across platforms. Could this code be simply added so that ROM collections could simply be another THING that plex manages ?
This should help keep the Plex platform quite sticky for new users, and is another thing to bring eyeballs to the servers.
While the games are difficult to monetize - perhaps the arcade could even be reimagined with “credits”. These credits are earned by … sharing content, participating in community discussion, adding new users, X credits per server hour, Y credits per bug found, Z credits per platform tested , XX credits per feature adopted, N credits per game completed, NN credits helping coordinate / cleanup subtitles and/or movie/tv-show metadata, YY credits for providing subtitles, Z credits for completing a “quest” ( complete watching a set of movies as part of an movie-club experience ), ZZ credits for using each feature of the platform ( eg: watch together, download content to a local device, etc – this will train users to make the most of the features ), G credits for inviting other users - and show a “tree” of users, GG credits for making a playlist (video / tv ) , NNN credits for making a music playlist ( perhaps lean into a Last.fm account to import / link this, and use these credits to encourage sharing ).
Of course , seeing charts and graphs of these credits over time, and RANKING your user against other users ( by percentagem eg: 90% percentile , etc… ,etc . ) touches on a fun competitive aspect.
