Plex artist sorting for compilations?

Can someone explain to me how I need to tag compilation albums so that the individual artists are reachable via the “Artists” menu? As it stands, I need to go to “Various Artists”. > Album > and then select the song I want. I’d like to get there but selecting the song’s artist and going right to that. Do I need to set the artistsort field to be equal to the song’s artist and not Various Artists or something?

If you set the artist (=track) to be different from the album artist Plexamp will list those on that respective artist page in an Appears On section.

It cannot be done.
Plex’ “Artist” list only contains the Album Artists of all your albums/releases.
If an artist only appears on a few tracks in a compilation album, you won’t see their name in the Artists list.

Is there a feature request to rectify this?

I’m going through my compilation albums and breaking them up. Unless the song was only released on the compilation album.

Assuming you’re using MusicBrainz Picard to your file naming.

Granted this takes a lot more time, but it gets me what I want. What I’ll do with the CD “Now That’s What I Call Music! 72” is load in the left hand side of MusicBrainz, use the “Lookup in Browser” button on each file, click the “tagger” button for the “single” of that song. Because most of the songs on said types of CD’s are also singles (as long as the length of the song is within a few seconds of the file I have). Or if the song wasn’t a single then find the album it came from and click that “tagger”. Then associate the file from the left side of MusicBrainz to the single that is now in the right side.

That way said song is listed under the actual artist, not “Various Artists”, and it will have the correct release date. Therefore your “decades radio” in Plexamp will work too.

Thank you!
