on win10/11, when plex is installed as a service, does windows see it as a service as opposed to a foreground task?
changing the advanced setting in windows to optimize for background tasks verses foreground tasks
I know it wouldn’t make a noticeable difference, just a general inquiry..
I have never tested this. On my server I have indeed set the above preference. And am running Plex server via NSSM.
Do you have a test methodology?
I don’t, and i wouldn’t know where to begin testing. It would be more perceived than verified with hard data. If someone knows how to prove it with hard data, it would be interesting to read their results.
I made the adjustment and after all was said and done, it seemed to run better with the default setting of having priority given to foreground tasks.
I can only surmise that just because it’s run as a service doesn’t mean windows treats it like a service.
it’s generally a ‘seat of the pants’ feel, but plex seems perceptibly snappier. Profiles seem to load more quickly and the playlists populate faster, especially when multiple users are streaming simultaneously .. just seems that way to me.
