xt1,
The PS3 is not a DLNA renderer so controlling it using a DLNA controller is not possible.
But now, there is many DLNA renderers.
Richard
I have a LG 47LM4600, which supports DLNA but does not come with Plex, so this would sure be nice.
edit: Just triedĀ kinsky, seems to work, no trouble flinging media at it and the remote control works smoothly. Had no idea my TV could do this.
hi this is my number one ide got alots of apps on android that can see plexserver and send it as dlna to my tv would love to se the plex app do the same... lots of love to the dev team
I want to do that with my Oppo 105. I wold like this Feature.
For me the Number 1 Feature
Ā lots of love to the dev team from me to ;-)

This thread is a little old, but nevertheless quite important to me to bring it up again.
I just bought a totally new Home-AV Setup with: Pioneer VSX-923 Receiver, and KDL-46W905A Sony TV. Both understand DLNA and it would really, really be great to use PLEX@Android as a DLNA Controller.
Just to remind the origin idea behind:
The PLEX PMS is already DLNA Server which is absolutely great !
On the other side, the whole DLNA chain is Server => Control Point => Renderer.
Is there any plan to enhance the PLEX-clients with Control Point and the PMS with Render Functionality?
Having PLEX (Client) as Control Point, I would be able to search and navigate my movies via my iPad or Android Tablet on my couch and then direct my DLNA TV to play it => killer Feature!!!
If PLEX(PMS) would also be able to act as a DLNA Renderer, wouldn't it then be possible to easily develop Channels to include DLNA streaming (e.g. from an enigma 2 based SAT receiver like DREAM DM8000HD with DLNA Server Functionality)? This would bring multiple new ways to include Live-TV within PLEX.
I know, that a lot of people are currently looking for Chromecast as the ultimate Plex-Receiver, but I would strongly suggest to follow also this route of DLNA as it is already be implemented in allmost every TV & Receiver today.
Great idea, we'll consider it for the future :-)
The statement above gave me so much hope;-)
All the Best

Yes please
The main TV is a Samsung with the Plex App, so that's good (although it would be great to browse on the iPad while it's playing something else and then remotely start it), but the other TV only has a small WDLiveTV.
Playing through its DLNA works, but browsing and starting from our handhelds would be much nicer.
it's the only way DLNA makes sense with Plex.
everytime i see a DLNA-fix in PMS , i hate it. because it's wasted time, i think.
because i hate it to navigate through a non-plex interface, without covers etc. - this way , they just could have let it be. because there are already enough DLNA-Servers.

Would love to see this feature.

Yes, +1 something but not like the OP.. please read : http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/46128-rules-for-this-forum-inc-how-to-vote/

This would be the most important Android feature for me. Now I'mĀ designated to Bubble uPNP to play my files to a (home theater) DLNA renderer.
Without this feature the Plex Android app has almost no added value for me (I don't listen music / watch movies on my smartphone).
Sounds like this feature is now availble via ChromeCast.

No. Chromecast support didn't change anything regarding DLNA. Only plex-to-plex clients that could be updated.
Iād like the ability to send music to a sonos device. Is that similar to what is being requested here?
On my laptop, I can right click a music file and do Play To > SONOS.
So it would be nice if when browsing my library on iOS or android to be able to play it to the sonos in the same fashion I would play it to an airplay or other plex client.
Thanks.

+1 from me too. Both my TVs support dlna and can stream from the plex server, but it would be a hugely better user experience for this to just work in exactly the same way as any other plex client.
I already voted, but this needs to get up and get some more attention.. Since adding DLNA into the Android/iOS/PlexWeb apps and allowing us to tell devices to play from the Plex Media Server to said device (PMS -> TV) would rock my world so hard.
o.k., as I started this thread, I also want to come back again.
Even having imported a chromecast now (I'm in German which is still not on the privilged list of countries where I can officially buy a chromecast), I would love the have this feature in my Android clients. As I am enhancing my music library within PLEX, it would be great to stream this music directly to my DLNA enabled speakers. As the chromecast doesn't have an audio output, that isn't possible. Additionally, my DLNA enabled speakers just requre 2W in Standby and are always ready to receive songs via an DLNA controller (like PLEX-Android ? ? ?).
So please rething your roadmap and include this feature!
Cheers myhtpc

I strongly support this suggestion. DLNA enabled hardware is so commonplace nowadays and combining it with the great plex interface would be a killer feature, instantly multiplying the number of plex enabeled devices and providing a chromecast-like experience without the limitations of chromecast (and that could even be a good marketing slogan :-))
I'm all for the DLNA support as far as Plex goes...
Not sure Plex Devs can do anything about CCast on this score due to the 5 Minute App timeout rule Google has implemented.
CCast should support DLNA rendering on it's Home screen and only Google can make that happen.
But this feature is useful far beyond CCast usage and should be standard in any DLNA system.
