PLEX as DLNA Control Point

+1  -- I am semi-relieved to know Plex doesn't have this feature, because I have wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to do it. After all, it works fine with Windows Media Player, et al.

Double +1!

+1 (I liked the first post, i guess that's better?)

I'm glad this has been a requested feature.  With the Xbox One only supporting 'playto' calls, which I believe is really like the 'control point' process in action, I've been using Skifta, but it would be fantastic to see this made available in the client apps!  I'd also love to see it in the plex/web.

Hello,

This would be a great feature...

I don't understand why no software and no mediacenters implement this function ?...

This is a really great function of DLNA   but nobody implements it

Is it hard to develop ? (I'm not a development guy)

For those who are interested here are the clients that support this 'Play On' cool feature :

Windows Media Player (works but slow to connect to the devices)

Kinsky (but ugly interface)

Foobar (with a plugin. But doesn't work well)

BubbleUpnp (great Android app)

DLNA is kind-of the Orphaned Child of a whole host of companies that decided that "Home Media Content" was a Good Idea but because there was never any real consumer push or demand for it, they half-assed the whole spec and it is really all over the place. No 3 DLNA enabled devices behave the same way or predictably (In my experiance)

That explains a lot :)

What a pity ...

Seriously. Skifta streams to the XBone beautifully but the GUI is UGLY and CLUNKY. Plex is a beautiful piece of Artistry (although buggy playing to Apple TV - for me anyway).

Would love a Plex App on the XBone, but play to from my iOS Plex App would be just as good. I'm no coder, but take whatever Skifta does and stick it into Plex and make a whole lot of people ridiculously happy that they never need to switch inputs on their TV ever again!!!

Keep on rockin' Plex team.

+1 most defiantly

I can use my windows 8.1 kitchen computer and send a stream from my NAS (running plex mediaserver among other things)  to my TV in the livingroom using an app called "media smart" but I want plex to do it!!!!

And another BIG +1

Cool beans.

+1.  Would love to see this feature.

Yes...implement DLNA and airplay in to the Android APP!

It would be really really great to stream videos directliy via DLNA to Samsung TV without any Mediaplayer between.

Or Music to Airplay Speakers.

Please, give us this Feature.  :D

Yes, +1.  My crappy android tablet can sned video seamlessly to my LG and Samsung TVs using DLNA.  I can't do that with Plex, and would love to.

+1 !!

also for Airplay! I sit there at my friends houses, have my whole movie-library in my pocket, but can't stream it , unless they download Plex, Sign in, Accept my Sharing Request and this , mostly for a single Movie - and sometimes never again... thats boring.

To be clear, that’s more than just a control point, thats a server and control point on the device, not to mention airplay.

But your request is useful too, would be nice, but honestly if I was going to do that, I’d have to plug in my power and then, why not connect hdmi? It’s already built in to the app.

I know the accessory is overpriced, but such is the apple business model.

Plex already casts to airplay (on iOS that is)
