Whenever you play a file with DTS audio, direct play is happening, but only if you’re watching the file without stopping, rewinding or fast forward the file. When this happens, audio stops and you hear no sound, but the server is claiming that direct play is happening. I do not experience this with Plex for Android so it is definitely an issue with RokuOS and its app for Plex.
My setup:
TV - TCL R635
Sound bar: VIZIO ELEVATE SOUNDBAR
Both are running the most current updates as well for the apps. The most current server is being ran; I’m a Plex Pass members so I’m running its most current version as well.
I should mention this is happening on Plex and Plex Preview for Roku.
This is just one example for audio. Dolby Atmos, whether it is DD+Atmos and TrueHD Atmos fail to work on Plex for Roku.
Feedback would be great. If you need any other pictures, specs, or logs from my end, I will provide them, thank you.
I have experienced this exact same problem for around a year on my end. I’ve yet to find a solution detailed by someone else to this issue. The only (very annoying) work around I’m aware of is to quickly press FF/Play in sequence (within a second). I have to keep trying this for a minute sometimes, but it will eventually kick the audio back on.
I’m also hoping to hear a more permanent solution.
What are your audio settings for HDMI on Roku? Since you’re using DTS-HD MA (not vanilla DTS) that’s supported via eARC on your TV and Soundbar but sometimes those audio settings act funny. It might be useful to switch off auto-detect and use auto-passthrough or manually setting compatibility.
I assume, since it’s direct play, that you have DTS-HD MA enabled in the Plex settings - that’s a newer option right? Maybe this is a bug with that feature. I don’t have any trouble with DTS but most of the other reports I’ve seen of a “DTS bug” didn’t differentiate between DTS and DTS-HD MA.
I don’t have anything that runs DTS-HD MA so I’m not as familiar with it but have been watching out for hardware that supports it for my future setups. I’m kinda disappointed with all the TV and speaker manufacturers removing DTS support.
