I was going to refer someone to a the Quick Step by Step Guide and I discovered it does not really cover the Plex world we are in now. Everything other than TV Shows and Movies is an "etc...".
It is time i think for Plex to realize that they have new user base and need to come out from just thinking that Plex is Movies and TV Shows. Most users may be but Plex has picked up a lot of new users in the last year or so - including myself - where TV Shows and Movies are not what Plex is used for.
So please acknowledge that there are Photos and there is Music as well and do re-write the Quick Step by Step Guide to make sure that these are not just an etc....
Also this Step by Step Guide support page gets bogged down with Media Preparation - something that is not needed for users who do not have TV Shows -
and then gets into connecting the server and matches and..... and still no reference to how to create a library section and refer to media folders / paths...
Would be good if this page included the overview of creating media libraries and adding media folders - then i can refer to the Quick Step by Step Guide for users who are new to Plex -
I am sorry if the video on this support page covers the topic but not everyone likes to listen to a video to learn how to do something. I, for example, prefer to read text and search text rather than watch a video and wait for the bit that covers what i want to find out about. Maybe when we have technology that has video frame tagging and word search within a video clip then it would be different
Totally agree with sa2000, having used Rasplex for quite some time (and Plex HT, Plex iOS and Plex Web), it baffled me that Plex seem to see ‘Media’ as videos.
I have been using photos and music all the time I have been a Plex user, most of it I had to figure out myself by trial and error. They both work great (with some tweaking) and music is played every day in my household on Plex Client devices in rooms not covered by my Sonos system (by the way, wouldn’t it be great to have Sonos-like functionality in Plex!)…
I have posted many questions and reported bugs in both music and photos to no avail, the Dev Team seem oblivious to how these features are supposed to work.
If Photo Libraries and Music Libraries are provided, the same amount of time should be assigned to development, testing and documenting of theses as that given to Movies and TV Shows Libraries.
Plex still needs work improving support for media that is not standard TV or MOVIES or MUSIC.
Even when creating a separate ‘other videos’ library with, with plex video scanner and personal media agent, plex still insists on forcing media files organized as ‘movies’.
One repeated example is workout videos.
Plex wants to treat each video as a movie. While not perfectly accurate either, a TV series is a better more closely appropriate organization ‘type’ for this kind of media.
Ripped Youtube videos, old home videos, or phone videos, music vidoes, or even ‘adult’ content are other examples of non-‘standard’ media types, all of which do not fall into the strictly TV or strictly MOVIE categories and typically can’t use scraped metadata.
