Just upgraded my PC so now I have my old i7 6700k ready to replace my power hungry FX-8350 that I had as a PLEX server. My question is if I should use the CPU alone since it already has integrated graphics or should I pair it with the GTX 960 that was paired with my FX-8350. Power consumption is something I want to keep low but it’s not a requirement if I can get better performance using both. Any thoughts? showbox
Your CPU is a “Skylake”.
Which means its Quicksync unit doesn’t have support for decoding 10 bit HEVC video.
Which turn means no hardware support for decoding 4K HDR movies.
If you only have videos without HDR or HEVC with 10 bit color, you should be good with this CPU alone – if you get a Plex Pass.
(I don’t know which are the supported video codecs of this graphics card.)
