plex can handle multi processor?

today i got plex telling me that my server can’t handle this video for streaming as my server has not enough power or something like that

now what does plex want?
i have 2 x Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2680 0 @ 2.70GHz
8 cores 16 threads
and 32 gb ram

Processor 1 9 Good, In Use DIMM DDR3 8192 MB 1600 MHz 1.5 V 1 RDIMM
Processor 1 12 Good, In Use DIMM DDR3 8192 MB 1600 MHz 1.5 V 1 RDIMM
Processor 2 9 Good, In Use DIMM DDR3 8192 MB 1600 MHz 1.5 V 1 RDIMM
Processor 2 12 Good, In Use DIMM DDR3 8192 MB 1600 MHz 1.5 V 1 RDIMM

so i assume it is plex or ubuntu or plex docker on ubuntu which is not playing well with 2 cpu’s ?
any idea where to look ?

I have the same CPu but only one (which was expensive enough  and Plex uses it well. Sometimes my clients say my Server is too slow but that’s just the client app being to stupid and not correctly pulling data from the server.

You can test if and how many cores Plex uses of your monster.
In Settings > Server > Transcoder set it to “Make my CPU hurt” and set “Background transcoding x264 preset” to “Very slow”.
On your Ubuntu install package htop (graphical top with usage bars, very handy). Open htop and configure it so you can see all cores and maybe the “All CPU avg” one too. Keep it running and start optimizing a movie in Plex.

Plex doesn’t use that much CPU but it should use all cores even a bit. If not enough resources are used you can fire up your clients and switch to a lower video quality so that these streams have to be transcoded too. This will help “making your CPU hurt”

Check if your video is using the vc1 codec. Plex’s transcoder is limited to 1 physical core for vc1.
