Alright, I am getting nuts with plex on Linux Mint 19.1
I tried all I could and all I found online but I didn’t made it works.
Then I deleted everything about PLEX in order to restar with latest update.
So there is the situation:
I run Linux MINT 19.1
I have a fresh install of latest “PEX”.
I have my “media files” on an external drive in formated in “EXFAT”
Apparmor is also activated by default (i don’t know if it can be a trouble maker)
I stopped the service and changed name user “plex” in to “username” inside the file, plex media server using ;
sudo nano /etc/default/plexmediaserver
Then i stopped the service using:
sudo service plexmediaserver stop
Then add name to group like this:
sudo addgroup plex youruser
sudo addgroup youruser plex
I also before tried to use /etc/fstab reading the post from ChuckPA
but I feel confusing with permission inside linux and seems to be even more complex depending the distri…
So I have dificult to understand and copy paste won’t help me this time, I am sure people asked this question about plex tons of time because I saw fews post and read them but no result for me so that why here I am.
So if anyone could help step by step I would appreciate.
/etc/default/plexmediaserver has not been used since Ubuntu 14. Changing the PMS username is not necessary.
Explain to me what you need to have mounted / accessible to Plex. I will help you through it. Once you understand how Linux works, it’s easy.
I will say this: People think Mint is easy and good. Historically it is one of the most problematic distributions to use because it’s quirky. IMHO, you’re better off just starting with Ubuntu 18.04.
Yes in the past I got less trouble on Ubuntu but so many people told me to start with Mint or Fedora because they were more free and open source than Ubuntu.
Me I just wanted an easy light system for start but I felt sometime Mint is capricious.
So I try to learn how does it works but when he come to Linux permissions I am totally lost.
I have an external hard drive in exfat;
/media/maru/Jess extern
I am wondering how I can let plex access this drive.
It may be more beneficial just moving to a windows based server if your not familiar with linux environment, you will be able to set it up with some guides but down the track when there is problems it may be difficult to diagnose
I moved to linux for Nextcloud and this software clearly pushed me to stay on linux, I am happy with Linux, I admit windows 10 is super easy and I enjoy linux however it have stuff I can’t figure out alone but I don’t mind to wait fews days to find people that can help me to understand the process.
I read it in beginning but it was a bit unclear to me, i will read it again. However I encountered a new problems on mint. And I am sure you saw this problem before.
I boot my pc I see the grub menu I choose Mint and then.
Couldn’t get size 0x8000000000e
Modsgin couldn’t get efi db list
In my macbine i have one ssd win 10 and on SSD Linux mint.
So i wonder why that problem happen, maybe it have better settings to edit for that don’t happen anymore.
ChuckPA by hazard don’t you have a perfect way to make dual boot with not problem?
