Hi all, as in the title, Plex player can’t play music in Tidal in Hi-Fi quality if my phone uses mobile data.
Do you have the setting enabled to use lower quality on cellular or the remote music quality?
Hi @anon18523487, no, that option is turned off.
Ok, can you play a track on WiFi, then switch to cellular and try again, then get me the log from the app.
Sure, I can.
Unfortunately there is a strange behaviour: all the tracks I play on WiFi keep the Hi-Fi tag also if i switch to cellular, and all the tracks I play on cellular (that then are not tagged as HiFi) will be not tagged as HiFi also if I switch to WiFi.
To be clear, I say the track is not in HiFi quality only because Plex Player doesn’t show me the tag.
Maybe they are played in high quality also on cellular, and simply the “HiFi” is not showed.
Do you still want me to follow your instructions and send the log from the app?
Yeah, that’s exactly what I want to check. What actually plays versus what is shown.

Sorry for the delay, this is the timestamp of the test:
22:24 - James Taylor on Wi-Fi
22:26 - James Taylor on cellular
I hope this is the right log you asked.
Thanks
Hi, do you have any news?
Thanks.
I am experiencing the same issue. Wondering what I’m wrong since the standard tidal app has no issue playing the songs in hifi on cellular. Just seems to be in issue with the plex app on iOS. Music drops the hifi tag without WiFi. I also have “original” quality on app over cellular.
I would like to add that the new Plexamp application seems to play the songs correctly on cellular and has encoded them in FLAC 44.1 where applicable. This issue for me is strictly with the main plex iOS applicAtion and in this case I am using it on an iPhone 11 Pro Max
Sorry, lost track of this thread. I checked your logs and it shows it played back the correct thing.

That’s the same as when you were on WiFi. It could just be the HiFi icon went missing. I’ll check with the team.
Can you provide me your log too? As I said, it could just be the icon missing.
I am clearly very lost as to how to show you my debug log sorry. Perhaps this is tied into me paying for tidal outside of plex. Seem to have found others with issue. Likely just the icon missing.
No, that shouldn’t matter. If you have a Tidal HiFi, even through someone else, you should still be able to access HiFi content. Here are instructions on how to get the logs, https://support.plex.tv/articles/201636593-ios-logs/. Attach the log file to your next comment.

Hope I am providing correct data. I just replicated the issue twice in the last 20 minutes of the time of this post. Thanks
Just like the other user, the logs shows it is playing back the flac file as-is without conversion.

Thank you…must just be a graphical thing or something with iOS. I noticed when I add tidal tracks to an existing playlist of my music the Hifi tag disappears too so I assume same thing. Luckily I think the plexamp app does it correctly. I appreciate the response on this. Just got my lifetime pass yesterday and have started expanding my server to new hardware this week.
